Forums - Nintendo - Designing "Core" games for Wii. Think I should see what I can create?

Between all of the discussions for games for the Wii and all of the debates, I've had a pair of (IMHO) good ideas for traditional Wii games, first one being an action rpg and a linear-story driven squad-based sci-fi shooter (vehicle-based gameplay ideas from our infamous John Lucas that couldn't be copied on gamepad or keyboard/mouse).

I haven't been working on these ideas for a few minutes, hours, or even weeks either.  I have a lot left to write out (I've been doing more brainstorming than writing), but I already have ideas for the control systems (which I've put a lot of time considering!), gameplay elements, plot, characters, even some music.

"Gaean Knights" Action RPG (1-3 player co-op in battle mode)

Various jrpg/rts/simple city building elements, more of an eastern feel to the design.  The controls are moderately based on the Wii version of Zelda, but changed moderately and expanded upon heavily (lock-on is there, but added on the IR Cursor ability to lock-onto parts of an enemy, like the helmet, weapon, shield, leg, etc), a item/magic menu system (simple basic amount of spells ala Chronotrigger, except you select them from the same type of menu as Metroid Prime 3's visor menu, so it would be in realtime combat with minimal menu involvement, while allowing charge time-to-power, or multiplayer combo spells like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and instead of items on the d-pad of the wii-mote, you would have "techniques/skills" assigned to them (that would be learned at various points in the game, or character levels, depending. The game would focus around your character (a knight type being), whom at the start of the game is (for some reason *wink*) found as a statue (was he always one? or did something happen? considering that he has no memory and some horrible effects of being a statue) beneath some hidden temple ruins, and the gametime (18-20 years, still working on it) of protecting a set of newborn twins (a boy and girl), who themselves are unusually gifted with magical ability and somehow tied to a prophecy. ^-^

"Forbiden Legions" Sci-fi Squad-FPS  (1-3/4 player co-op in single player, haven't worked on multiplayer ideas at all)

Heavy Sci-fi FPS with simple squad-map based elements and a fairly heavy focus on vehicle combat as well (mainly on the "tank", I'll explain later).  Controls for FPS mode would be of course IR Aiming and focused on an upgradeable multi-purpose rifle (including a grappling spike/hook).  Use the tilt controls of the nunchuck to change your stance (or lean to the sides), and use the wiimote tilt contrls to change the position of the gun to aim around corners and such (you could do this in Red Steel, it worked quite well!), and again use the - and + buttons to organize the squad into various points on the map, like having one ally stay at your side and leave the other(s) to guard the doorway that you just passed through, so you don't get ambushed from behind.  Story would be a bit political/military heavy, but your squadmates would be a bit more varied (I've already got 1 character to be a a squeaky-sarcastic type, saying things like "Do I look like a bald space marine to you?!?") ;)

Your squad and your "tank" play a vital role in a war (it also functions as a partial living quarters), because the war for survival starts before you're not even in Kansas anymore, Toto. ;)

Oh, and the best part is the "tank", it's based EXTREMELY heavily on a vehicle from a *classic* game, it uses 4 tires instead of treads, a large energy cannon, a flexible swivel torso (the entire upper half of the vehicle is seperated by the swivel torso from the lower half of the vehicle), and is heavily upgradeable (a cookie for the one who guesses what game this vehicle is from, 2 if you post a pic of the vehicle itself).  Ah yeah, the tanks's controls are designed completely around both the nunchuck and wiimote, so you can pull some CRAZY stunts with it if you dare. ;)

 ---------------

Now, I gotta say I'm worried about my efforts into making something special here being wasted because of all of the anti-wii sentiment from both core-gamers, developers, AND publishers who wouldn't consider this type of game for the platform.  I REALLY want to continue to design this, but if it has an absolute 0% chance of catching anyone's attention, I'd have to wonder if it's really worth the effort.  I suppose i could make some hand-drawings of my ideas, although I spent more time drawing robots when I was younger than I did anything life-like. >.<

Anyways, I'm tired so I'm gonna hit the sack for a few hours and I hope you guys can share some very-welcome input into my ideas here.  I hope to have some positive comments or constructive critisism from y'all. :)

p.s. forgive the grammer, I'm tired. :P

Edit : And BOY is my topic title BAD. >.<

Wiiware will yield titles like these ("core" titles, that is). We just need players to buy them and we'll be all set.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

The only problem with that thought is that there's no way I could accomplish these games in a Wii-ware level environment. >.

^ You can't but the combined power of supermariogalaxy and vanguardian1 can!!! Right?? Uhh...fine..

Hmm... I suppose I could always change the action-rpg into an above perspective 2d game for wiiware, I might be able to pull something like that off without ruining the game itself, but no chance on the fps game for something like that.

Nintendo lets anyone make a wiiware game? If so I'm making one and could help with your amazing ideas.

Do you have a team for the kind of effort this would take. Because both appeal to me very much, specially the co-op modes. The second one most of all because co-op with gun controls sort of like MP:3 would be awesome!!!

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

Yeah, for Gaean Knights I'd have to clip out some of the cinematic pieces of the game (since they wouldn't fit in a 2d game), but getting the game to work in a Secret of Mana type of battle engine (for the close-in fights) would work well. Yeah, I think that could actually work. Now I just need $2k for the wiiware development kit, and someone who knows how to program. >.

I would make a 2d metroid (like super metroid) with great 3d models. The aiming would be based on the wii pointer like a mouse. That would be awesome.

Well get people to fund it. You would only need 2000 people to send $1 through paypal. I'm sure you could get 2000 people donate a dollar in a year.
