alistdaily has a new interview up with Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America. You can find the full discussion here, though there are a couple of noteworthy excerpts that we’ve highlighted below.

On the topic of how eSports has played in the success of Super Smash Bros., Moffitt said:

Moffitt also said the following on how the Nintendo gaming audience differs from that of Sony and Microsoft:

Around the Network

I really think EVO helped Smash Bros. a lot. It helped bring out a lot of exposure for the game and also convinced people that Smash can also be a serious fighting game.

I am sure it helped but I doubt it helped too much. Exposure is great and esports is wonderful but its not like Smash Bros is a niche franchise or a franchise that has been going downhill and it would have failed without them... Not to say it didn't help cause I m sure it did but reignite interest might not be the right word since I highly doubt people lost interest in the franchise to begin with

I don't think they're as popular as LoL, DOTA or Starcraft but fighting games are still pretty big.
