what kind of upscaling does the ps3 do for regular dvds?

It is kind of shitty when done through component cables (doesn't work with DVD-ROMS (web-enabled DVD's) and burned DVD's). With HDMI it does everything beautifully, including 1080p upscaling, just fine. They even said they might make upscaling even better in the future.

so it dosent play burned dvd at all? b/c to get a ps3 i will have to swing it as a blu ray player to the wife

I'd love to see that happen.

It does, I haven't tried on Components, but it does on HDMI.

good...good...

now i just need to get the price down a little more for her and i can probably have our dvd player have an "accident"

I'd love to pick up two films that were partially shot in my hometown of Quebec City:

Catch me if you can : A church and its surroundings double as the village of Mont Richard.

Taking lives : Quebec city is passed off as Montreal. Not a great movie, but the Angelina Jolie sex scenes are amazing and pretty long!!!

I can't see why all the studios just don't drop DVD all together. Or start releasing Blu-ray films before DVD.

Sure, it's not consumer choice, but who's gonna stop them (excluding the EU, that is)

probably because the DVD sales are still around 95% of the market.  somehow i feel the film industry would be a bit disappointed to lose nearly all their sales.

at $400 a majority of the market can't afford to upgrade regardless of how much they may or may not want it...you know cause things like food and shelter need to be budgeted for first.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
