"sure u can get anything with enough money, but do u really expect them to go from making 50*1.8mil/month profit to losing 200*1mil/month? not a wise business move"
It won't be that high, the technology is not very cutting-edge and suppliers like IBM have enough capacity, but yes there will be some business reasons for example that they wouldn't make as much money with each console or that they don't want to create new capacity with the danger of it not being used later-on.
I never said they had no reasons. On the other hand they clearly fail at delivering the product and they miss a possibility to drive their current advantage home because they want to make more money. And I think that they will regret that decision later-on.
"so advertising and BRANDING doesn't matter to consumers, yet ps3 will do well because of the playstation and sony BRAND?"
Of course advertising and branding matters. But IMO the hardcore/casual distinction that is endemic in this forum is pretty much useless. You can brand as much as you want, either you have games that are targeted for a given demographic or you don't. It is true for example that the PS3 didn't have many games until recently, while the Wii had its casual killer app (Wii Sports) as a launch title. But this year the cards are reshuffled. The PS3 comes out of the early-adopter price range into the mainstream. It gets lots of games that have been played by millions... There will be some changes. The question is how big these will be.
