Game #19

This game was popular for it's multiplayer, but it's single-player mode was well done too, which followed the diaries of three characters.

Hint for #19. A certain chapter in this game is a trip back down memory lane.

Grand Theft Auto V?

Older, and more historically accurate .

#22 - Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario Bros. 3 is a very special type of game for me. It's a game I will remember in detail, all the different worlds, different levels and all the secrets and wacky bits. It's just one of those games I can always come back to and have a great time. Mario 3 is split into 8 worlds just like the 1st game but the themes are a bit more creative this time around. Mario 1 really only had the overworld, underwater and ground and night levels. While Mario 3 has all those along with the different themed worlds (including the giant world, which everyone loves!), 3 times more levels and a much bigger soundtrack. The bosses in the first game were all "Bowser" but in Mario 3 you fight the Koopalings and they are all different more or less. Mario can also has quite a few powerups. He can turn into a tanooki, or just have a tanooki tail, turn into a frog, become a hammer brother along with the returning fireflowers. The gameplay is very well done, responsive controls, challenging but not too difficult levels and all well designed.

#21 - Super Meat Boy

Another excellent platformer although much more difficult than Super Mario Bros. 3. Super Meat Boy features 7 worlds along with 7 more dark world levels and Super Meat World for user levels which is a lot of levels. You'll go from the forests to hell to the end of the world itself to save your girlfriend from the evil Dr. Fetus. Along your way you can find hidden levels and unlock new characters from other (mostly) indie games such as The Kid from I Wanna be the Guy and Commander Video from Bit.Trip.Runner. The controls are great, tight and very responsive which is good because many of the requried jumps are quite precise and difficult. The levels can be very difficult but never feel cheap, if you die it's your fault. The game also doesn't punish you for deaths, there are no game overs and you can die as much as you like on a level your progress will never be set back. Graphics are very clean and the music is very catchy. It might not be a game for everybody because of the difficulty but if that is not an issue then this is a game for you.

#20 - Mega Man 9

Since Mega Man 6, there has not been another NES style Mega Man. Infact the series kind of died off in favour of the X and ZX series that came later on the SNES, PS1 and GBA. But there was a demand and a fanbase around the original series and around the beginning of the retro revival of video games Capcom brought us Mega Man 9. Just a nostegia trip? Hardly. Mega Man 9 is the most polished Mega Man to date. The graphics and music are the best in the series while retaining that NES look and sound. Mega Man is back to his Mega Man 2 phase which means no mega buster or the slide, just jumping and shooting. The robot masters and their stages are all very well designed and fun to play and all of their weapons are unique and useful in some way or another. Maybe some weapons are a little too good again but overall I do not find myself in a Mega Man 2 situation where I am only using the Metal Blades. There is also a store where you can buy E-Tanks, extra Lives and M-Tanks which are essential for the Wily castle. Wily really doesn't mess around this time around, his castle and his boss is tough as nail and it will really test your Mega Man skills.
