31. New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo, Wii U, 2012.

To me, it's the one 2D Mario that comes closest to World (sue me, 3 has never really set my heart on fire), with a more dynamic overworld than the other NSMB games, as well as more inventive boss battles and a truly challenging final world on par with the Bonus Area of World.

Number 30 was the beginning of this convoluted saga, even though it is the most recent game to appear on consoles. A new entry will hopefully appear next year.

Skyward Sword?

Got it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Looks like I'm ridiculously far behind thanks to Dragon Age Inquisition.

Anyway, Clues:

41. A cross gen game published by a company that seems to be doing everything to be the most evil in the industry.

40. This girl only plays for sport, and needs a big park.

39. Fe, a boxer and the power of 3.

38. You'll find you will wander around in this game and find a lot of agro.

37. Arguably, one of the biggest and last exclusive titles of the previous gen.

36. Approx. 4 years post-release before we could finally lift some trophies.

35. "Did I mention I'm a god now?".... "You may feel less like fighting after I pull of your head!"

34. The main character shares the same name as a fictional TV chracter who keeps having the worst day of his life. Oh, and the game features numerous bombs.

33. The humble beginnings of a now way over-the-top, annual franchise.

#41 - Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag?

Yes

#39 - Punch-Out?

Nope

#38 - Shadow Of The Colossus?

Yes

#37 - The Last Of Us?

Nope, it's a well established franchise rather than a new one

#35 - God Of War 2?

No, the phrases I took were meant to be a bit of a red herring. Completely different genre.

#33 - Call Of Duty?

Yes

39. Tekken 3?

37. God of War: Ascension

no idea on 35

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

39. Fe, a closed hand and the power of 3.

32. Allows you to learn a completely fictional language in a waterworld

31. Introduced the world to a new gun.

35. Has never been on consoles or handhelds. This year it was re-released on Steam.

Game 30: First game in a loved franchise that until today still makes people want for more and believe in a possible comeback. The protagonist was widely accepted as the mascot of the platform it debuted.

36 is Metal Gear Solid 4?

Correct!

#31: Rayman Legends (Ubisoft, 2013) - PC (also on PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, 360 and One)

This game is tied with Yoshi's Island as my favorite 2D platformer ever. It's everything that made Origins fantastic, but even better somehow. I also beat this game in about a day or two, it's intoxicating. And those music stages are GENIUS. I'd play a whole game just with that. This is actually going to be one of the first games I'll buy for the PS4 when I get one. I really do hope that we get a third game in this "modern" Rayman series, it'd be shame for it to die after just 2 ames...

#30: it's a remake of a REALLY popular franchise.

Hint #30. This game follows a new angle on the same story.

Additional hint: The setting of this game shares it's name with a 7th gen game published by Warner.

Hopefully the last hint for this one. The last in a RTS series and also it got a Xbox 360 port.

#31 - Mario Kart 64

"Welcome to Mario Kart!" This installment of Mario Kart was hit and miss with fans everywhere but I personally loved it. Perhaps it's because I got to play it on local multiplayer with my brothers so many times that this game has a special place in my heart. The racing was fun and chaotic but the mode that we played most on this title was battle mode. It was glorious, with fun stages and a good balance of items that made for intense battles and let's not forget the ability for defeated players to come back as a bob-omb to get revenge on their killer.
