Xbox caters to US

Nintendo caters to Nintendo Fans, Partially Japan

Sony caters to World Wide

Nor a surprise, but I do wonder who would win in a fight GameCube Vs Australian PS4.

Seeing as GC sold as many units as there are people in Australia, I'll go with GC.

Keep pushing forward ps4.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Great for PS4 hope it can maintain or better yet exceed these results.

You need to work on your maths =P

OT: Helps that we are at a realistic price this gen, $999 was a joke for PS3 and PS4 is nearly half its price at $549 (plus some great deals recently).

XBO should be doing alright here too, after all it had no shelf competition all holidays last year =P

I've put one on layby for myself & will pick it up soon. The reason I decided to get one was the price at the time (It was on sale for more than $100 off brand new) & secondly the variety of games available in the next 12-18month period. Bloodborne looks enticing!

I've got a WiiU as well, so I've basically got the option to buy most games released.... (With the exclusion of gears of war which I'll get the Xbox1 for)...

Yes they won the launch here last year because Sony didnt ship enough PS4's. You literally had to preorder to get one in 2013, none were on shelfs (unless you were crazy stupid lucky). Since then though Sony has been doing much better, I think it was around March-Aprlil when they started to become easier to get and now their are no problems.

The information here is... well, suspicious.

They proclaim the PS4 the "fastest-selling console", yet don't provide any figure for its sales. They say "The console broke pre-order records for Sony consoles and devices in Australia prior to its launch in the country on November 29"... note the "for Sony consoles and devices" - they didn't break pre-order records for gaming consoles, but for Sony consoles. They don't mind reporting current numbers for Europe+Australasia, yet don't actually provide a number for Australian sales.

In short, what should be a media report is instead a gushing advertisement.

I can't help but notice that this is all an "according to NPD". The thing is, NPD wasn't the company that tracked videogames in Australia - that's only a recent thing. Until recently, it was GfK. Which leads me to suspect that the entire article, and Sony's announcement, are based on NPD numbers that only go back something like 3 years.

This isn't to say that PS4 isn't the fastest selling console in Australia. It probably is. But without actual numbers relevant to the claim, I can't really take it all that seriously. Especially when I've seen no sign of PS4s being sold-out in Brisbane at any time since the end of 2013 (whereas I recall Wii being sold out frequently in 2007).

I'd be curious to hear what the VGChartz numbers on this currently look like. Anyone know?
