Hmm Don't know about this. The standard controller is better for many game types like Action-Adventures, Fighter games, Arcade game etc. The mouse and keyboard is much better for FPS and RTS. I would be really sad if they would just copy the Nintendo approach because I think there are other possibilities, but the input scheme will definitely have a big focus the next generation.

(Although I would be happy with small things, for example if the small analog joysticks would be more responsive, I think the PS3 one only has 2-3 different velocity settings, there could be much improvement there.)

I wouldn't....it seems that the majority (not all I realize) of hard core gamers prefer standard controls, especially for shooters. Maybe motion as an option, but not as the standard. Could make one and use it for casual games and party games, but don't try to tie it in to Halo 4 or a revolt may take place.

halo4 would be 10x better with ir control than with dual-joysticks

also, remember that the wiimote+nunchuk can still have the same scheme for fighter games/arcade games/etc as it has the 1 joystick and plenty of buttons

also, by next gen the devs will have learned how to PROPERLY use motion/ir controls so they will be much improved

kinda like how there weren't a lot of great 3d games like mario64 back in the early days of 3d but now they've mastered them pretty well

The more games I play with the motions controls that less I really care for it including on the Wii. That's of course except for a few games. So by the time Microsoft comes out with their version of motion control it will be old news.
Even with shooters I find the wii-mote more annoying trying to aim than with a mouse.

So please no more motion control consoles.

aim with a mouse is still superior to wiimote, but u don't use mice on consoles

wiimote is by far the best for shooters on a console

by the time MS comes out with their version, devs will be much better at it (like with 3d gaming) and u'll like it more

there is very very little chance that ms/sony won't use motion/ir controls in their next console

u just don't knowingly leave all that money on the table by immediately alienating 100s of millions of potential customers by using a controller they will not buy....they didn't know it this gen, but now they do, so they will have to incorporate that knowledge when designing the next gen
