People are overestimating smash sales for WiiU ,the 3ds sales will eat into it , plus last of us remastered sold 2m on ps4 while mario kart 8is at 2.5-2.8 m sold , what about the phenenom known as GTA , it will outsell smash bros by a decent margin like 200- 300k this year

Combining sales of all versions of a game would be a better comparison.

Why is that?

That is a more meaningful comparison, its the sales on all platforms combined which matters, not of individual versions. When we break down sales by platform basis, an exclusive always has an advantage, and a multiplat will have a disadvantage due to sales being split across multiple versions.
