Does failed to meet them mean they aren't trying? Or does it mean they just haven't met those goals. I could give myself 50 miles today. If I stop after 5 have i not tried?

Screw Bush then. What about Obama. Why doesn't HE want to make that decision. Why does he instead wish to just pull out and let the country destroy itself? Why doesn't he want to fix it if this is such an easy fix instead of letting them kill each other?

I mean he is going to be president right?  Why can't he fix things like that?  Why would bush have anymore imput after Barak is in power?

It means that they are so far away from reaching them that we are wasting our time and money and lives.  Sure its a risk that they might start killing each other, but we have stood by and let it happen before, why is it a big concern now?

Because while its easier than maintinin a long term prescense in iraq, many groups wouldn't be happy with a partition, like the Sunni's, and Obama has already pledged to get our troops out, the partions would take time and resources at this point to get completed, time and resources we don't have, a withdrawl is much less effort to complete

We've completely screwed over countries before, so it's ok that we're going to do it again!

Great logic there.

We should only help others so long as it doesn't hurt us. Even when their problems are directly our fault.

Also great logic.

Sorry, i've been raised with better morals then that.  When you screw something up, it's your duty above all else to fix it.

I worked on Jim Webb's campaign in 2006, and while I think he would be a great person for the VP slot.. he would not deliever Virginia or any other red states to Obama... he won his Senate seat by about 5,000 votes statewide mostly because his opponent (George Allen)'s campaign kind of imploded.. Webb's campaign wasn't well organized at all and he is not a terribly charismatic figure. He does have a lot going for him.. like you said he was secretary of the Navy and he has introduced quite a bit of legislation for a freshman senator. He's introduced his new version of the GI bill again and -- if it passes -- although it might not make up for sending our military off to risk their lives in a pointless, unresolvable conflict -- it would be a great start.

Obama would likely select a governor as his running mate -- and my bets are on Richardson. They man has a pretty impressive resume... although his presidential campaign stumbled pretty badly and he didn't make his case very well. New Mexico is another state which could go either way in the general election and its not as if Obama needs a great orator on the ticket with him.. Richardson would be a great balance.

Great logic to wreck our own country trying to meddle in other countries, as we have seen our attempts to try and fix problems overseas have resulted in worse situtations later on, sure we messed up in Iraq but staying is only exacerbating the problems and will lead to worse results later on, when we left vietnam things went bad for a while but then stabilized on their own, a more reasonsable evacuation now can help to stabilize things quicker, negotiations with Iraq's neighbors and allowing those who want to leave Iraq to do so in advance will minimize bloodshed without requiring us to remain in a costly occupation, however staying for the long term is not a viable option.
