I worked on Jim Webb's campaign in 2006, and while I think he would be a great person for the VP slot.. he would not deliever Virginia or any other red states to Obama... he won his Senate seat by about 5,000 votes statewide mostly because his opponent (George Allen)'s campaign kind of imploded.. Webb's campaign wasn't well organized at all and he is not a terribly charismatic figure. He does have a lot going for him.. like you said he was secretary of the Navy and he has introduced quite a bit of legislation for a freshman senator. He's introduced his new version of the GI bill again and -- if it passes -- although it might not make up for sending our military off to risk their lives in a pointless, unresolvable conflict -- it would be a great start.

Obama would likely select a governor as his running mate -- and my bets are on Richardson. They man has a pretty impressive resume... although his presidential campaign stumbled pretty badly and he didn't make his case very well. New Mexico is another state which could go either way in the general election and its not as if Obama needs a great orator on the ticket with him.. Richardson would be a great balance.
