Forums - Sony - If the PS4 would have failed or even done X1 numbers, where would that leave the struggling company?

Sony would add another division to their list of divisions that are not very successful

Well, last time I checked Sony was struggling... PS4 success or not.
The Playstation division is doing okay but it is certainly not the reason why Sony is not in big troubles but only in troubles right now.

another

if sony wasn't here then PS4 wouldn't be crunching up gen 8 but it is so yeh, when sony goes down it won't be in teh console warz but it is and it is winning gen 8

round and round we go

1) The PSP made heaps of cash for Sony, and the PS3 broke even at the very least (Though it certainly didn't do as well any other one of their gens).

Fat chance it broke even.

Yeah there's no way the PS3 from R/D to now, broke even.

They haven't broke even over the last ten years, Sony has lost 3.5 billion USD on Playstation over that period.

Numbers taken directly from Sony financials.

Sony's Gaming Division, Profit over the last 10 years:

1,579.3 billion JPY in sales

Sony's Game Division, FY 2013 (April 2013 - March 2014)

Not surprising, the PS3 was a huge kick in the pants from so many angles.  I loved the machine, but that doesn't mean it was profitable by any means heh.

Nothing would really change. Ps4 would need much much more sales to really help Sony. TV alone lost more money alone yearly than Ps3 managed to lose during it whole dark years.
