Communication.  Dont restrict it.  Either answer them or dont.  You dont allow people to talk about this outside of this thread.  This is the only place where you can get multiple people's opinion on something and also hear what mods have to say as well.

I really wouldnt restrict it.  I personally dont feel the last thread should have been removed either.  I feel this one was created as a safety blanket really, but this is what the users are saying and i dont think they should be restricted unless theyre crossing a line.  If you think people are going too far then say it.  If they dont listen then ban them.

This is what happens when you direct all mod talk to one thread.  People still want to be heard.

I don't know, I agree with smeags that asking for moderations for a specific post can (and does) cause problems an grudges.  So I don't think people should be doing that here.

however, if you are generally asking about the general responses in a problematic thread like you did earlier I think that should be fine.  Of course that is up to the mods to determine, but personally I think as long as your post isn't targetting a specific user it should be ok...

People get too defensive when it comes to exclusives, even when they bomb. Imagine if people could accept or simply ignore other people opinions, what a world we'd live in!

Its a matter of respect.  And when you have people that you know is overly biased anyways making comments like that then its when it becomes a problem.

Example:  If Slade said something like "Banjo Central"  people wouldnt care because its obviously a joke.  Or if Pezus said something about The Order like "Cinematics the game".  Again, obviously a joke.

However when you have people who regularly attack fanbases anyways, though i wont name names simply because that isnt allowed making these comments, that is when people get annoyed.

So its all about repect in the end.  Its like people want to be excited and these people just try to get a quick jab in as quick as possible to turn the thread around.

People are more annoyed by the bias of the comments than anything.

Its tricky with Xbox fans given they are a clear and distinct minority on the site. Its sometimes hard to gauge the difference between 'herd negativity' thats a natural side effect of having always had more Sony and Ninty fans on the site, and whats people piling on because they don't like not having something.

That said, again without naming names, one or two of the people who regularly attack the Xbox fanbase have actually been perma'd lately.

@ others in the thread

Honestly its normallly like Cone said, most often people don't report posts, so we don't see posts. Even for mods, posting in a thread doesn't necessarily mean having read every other post prior to our own.

I believe you guys are smart enough to know who is and isnt trolling.  If you dont know the members by now and their history, then you wont at all.  I will take my leave now

Of course. On top of that we have lists of people well known for fucking around where they shouldnt be. We keep posts to use against people in the future, for when they do slip up and cross the line.

On the other hand we have to be fair. We cannot moderate one guy for saying "Rare making another Kinect game?" and leave the other guy who said "Banjo Kazooie Kinect?" as both posts are simply not breaking a rule. That totally breaks the direction of moderation here

This is essentially coming down to who is making the post and problems the Xbox fanbase here may or may not have with that person. The best thing to do with that poster? Ignore the small, petty posts. Wait for them to really slip up and mass-report them. That way they dont slip through the cracks and we can hit them out of the park before they cause a thread to go south. Little things like saying a developer is making a Kinect game will not be punished, because there is a very real chance that Rare could be making a Kinect game, but them outright trolling Xbox, Rare or Kinect will be hit hard.

This post I can agree with. People need to be more respectful, not just in how/where they post but in who they are replying to.

I understand where you are coming from with your complaints and I know from personal experience just how annoying it can be when you see the usual suspects crawling out of the woodwork to poke a bit of fun at something, but if we add a whole new layer to what is and isnt allowed by specific users, then we will be hitting people with moderations for small, petty, innocent things. I dont think thats the right way to go about it.

As a follow up to this - where possible I think a lot of mods try to be light on with moderations, which I consider to be a good thing.

If we can get away with not moderating someone we often do, as it allows for continued discussion, and helps strike the balance between having one of the best behaved video game forums on the web (I feel we do) without stifling discussion.

I think the best solution is to get more xbox fans onto this site and it won't feel so negative towards xbox.

when the 360 was in its prime was the ratio on this site more generous to xbox fans?

It was... But they were probably still the minority by quite a bit...
