Fun.

that's all I want from a game. I wanna have fun one way or another

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The total package; since I love RPG's, I appreciate good writing and deep gameplay. Otherwise, gameplay is the most essential.

I don't think anyone plays a game because they want to not have fun. It's what makes a game fun for you that is the key.

If it's a game that will be done inside an few hours then it's entirely gameplay that makes it fun for me. If it's a game that I am expected to invest 10 or more hours in then story, characters, voice acting all take on a lot more significance, and indeed I can be very forgiving of ordinary gameplay if those other elements are excellent. Graphics always enhance the experience, whether it's gameplay or story, but it's not what makes a game fun for me.

The wonderful sense of community. Especially here on the internet.

Honestly, nothing springs to mind. I'll go with d21's comment +1.

Fun driven by a sense of achievment by completing tasks in a virtual world.

I think that's pretty much it. You can also put in the bag, Innovation, Challenging Gameplay, Tits and awesome music.

For me it would be local or online multiplayer, ( mostly on consoles, since on handhelds it doesn't really need it).
Sometimes i just want to go through that journey with someone else, it could be one of my brothers, friends or someone random.

You cant spell 'game' without 'gameplay'.... wait....

Jokes aside, I play games for the gameplay. If it isnt fun to play, then I get very little motivation to finish it.

From games past I remember the fun I have had with them over any story, music or graphical element. (Especially graphics)

The ability to suck me in. A good game will make me play it when I have free time. A great game will make me play it even when I don't have time to play it. What factors most in that "ability to suck me in"? I can't really narrow it down.

I think you captured the essence of a great game there. There is some ineffable quality in great games that keeps one coming back for more. It's that feeling that keeps you playing until 3am or draws you back to the couch five minutes after shutting off the system.

gameplay and game design. (this also includes stuff like controls, framerate, Logic of the world/events/your actions etc.)

Visuals are even less important to me than audio. (tech wise that is art style is pretty important)
