But I have no friends

...

who play racing games, and own a PS4.

So can I play just as a solo person?

Also the multiplayer set up sounds more or less like any MOBA, so it's hardly a special thing.

You will be that friend to somebody else that plays racing games and has a ps4. You better spend some time online for a while and add a few worthy people you run into with-in the races or something lol

OT: Have mine fully pre-ordered and might pick this up at the midnight launch since i dont have to be at work.

My PS4 needs that new TRUE next gen exclusive racing game. a lot of people have been saying that it's good aswell

The problem is I'm not worthy, in terms of my skill at racing games. So given clubs are limited to 6 players there is simply no way randoms I race with/against will think I am worthy to join a 6-person club. And besides I'm not really the kind of person who likes doing the online friend thing if I don't know the person behind the user-id. So I doubt I'd join a club with people I only "meet" through DC.

That shouldn't be a problem because there'll be other people in your position as well, so there should be plenty of back and forth invites between randoms looking to be a part of a club despite "not having friends". It's not like they're going to be really selective either.

awesome read.... I love what they did with multiplayer. That has always been my problem with racing games.

Driveclub is a very good looking game, but I think an open world like in Forza Horizon would have made that "club" part much more interesting ..

Can people just go away with this open world forza horizon crap? When did this become a thing? Open world racing? Like seriously, what the fuck does that even mean? How is it great?

I play racing games to drive over a specific course/track/circuit... master that track to hell and back, then compete on said track with others that have masetred it just as well. Not to go through billboards and take short cuts. I want them to penalize people that even cut corners. Sigh....

You have to admit though, some of the car manoeuvres in Horizon 2 are spectacular:

Horizon got me into caring about these racers...

The open world aspect is very engaging. Makes me want to go back and play the main series.

Hell, if I end up liking that, I may even try Driveclub as the game looks spectacular.

Not even remotely surprised. smh.

Well, Forza Horizon 2 has clubs as well. The two can be compared next week on the social features and club aspects of the game. I'm not sure what makes one better than the other though.

um, I just think that in an open world you could drive around with your friends/club and explore the world and maybe after a while of "sightseeing" scout out a route you make your "home turf" and master and challenge other clubs on, which in turn have a different spot they mastered - that's what I'd imagine a "Driveclub" to be like

pretty much like in the anime Initial D

I have no idea if it's like that in FH2 and I won't ever know as I don't plan on picking up an XB1. I hope DC is as fun as Motorstorm, I really had a lot of fun with all the PS3 titles.

On one hand, open world takes away the loading times. On the other hand, you have to wait for the rest of the people to meet up at the starting line of the next event, which takes at least 5x as long and usually ends with a time out plus forced start anyway.

Competing on specifically made tracks that flow correctly is more fun than random route #264 with akward corners and cutting accross fields. I can close my eyes and drive the Nordschleife, Spa, Sarthe, etc flawlessly in my mind. Can't remember a single ribbon from TDU (apart from the epic 1 hour around the island race), NFS Carbon, Midnight club LA, Burnout paradise, TDU2, NFS HP, NFS Most wanted, Forza Horizon, ETS2, NFS Rivals. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy those games, just more for exploration and single player.

It's time to learn some new tracks and meet online. NFS shift was the last with some good track based racing. Shift 2 was unplayable due to input lag, I didn't like Grid and Ferrari challenge / TD Ferrari racing legends / WRC 3 were pretty deserted online. I'm craving track racing more atm than another open world racer.
