Forums - PC - Got an old gaming PC thats 4-5 years old? can it still match up to the Nextgen consoles? show your pics! :-D

My old 5670 HD, 8GB, 4170 FX CPU handily beats the Wii U. My not as old 7870HD, 8GB, 8350 stands on par on the PS4 (currently performs slightly better). My new MSI 970 GTX (just ordered), 8GB, 8350 build handily destroys them all!!!

GTX 970 Era :: To be updated

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Radeon HD 6970 2GB
128GB Samsung 840 Evo
8GB DDR2 RAM

While a decent setup, I do have a few problems. Such as system crashing/blue-screen randomly now. Also when playing games, where I should be getting smooth frame-rate I get a lot of juttering, if that's the right word :/

My 5670 build was 4 years old. My 7870 build was 2 years old. I sell my older GPU and upgrade every 2 years or so.

Im not sure about Intel CPUs, but on my AMD 8350 I had to lock the cpus frequency to 3.5 GHZ. Depending on usage the system would scale from 1.4GHz to  2.1, 2.8, 3.5 and finally 4.2GHz. This swithcing caused newer games like NFS Rivals and AC Black Flag to have FPS spikes or lags whenevever the CPU would change clocks. It was very annoying.

For now, sure. I'd argue that exclusives like Infamous are a step above anything a PC that old could achieve, but as far as multi-plats are concerned an older PC can probably outpace both the PS4 and X1 quite frequently for now.

Even exclusive are pretty poorly optimized right now (in the grand scheme of things). All the currently release ones will have spent the majority of their development cycle being made for an incomplete console :p I was surprised to see Killzone/Ryse level titles at launch.

I have this crummy AMD phenom II x6 that I bought wayyyy back with a 6870 (which is now a 7850 cause warranty rma) but I can't wait for my 970, if it ever comes T_T

I also have 8gb ram, 3.5TB hard drive, 750W psu, 1080p monitor, antec 900 case

Depends on which PC. Zero definitely can't with his 4 year old PC but Subiya can be on par with his 2 year old 7870 with multiplats since the PS4 equivalent is around a 7870. Since it's a console it will also play the games better since developers will be programming close to the metal they will get much better results compared to comparative PC specs.

GPU is 5 years old, the rest of the system is 2 years old. Mid-range, cost me £650.

It still does the job, but my PS4 absolutely shits on it.

Sorry to say my 3 year old PC 570 gtx, 8120 gets shit on by my PS4. I can't even run Dead rising 3 on medium without horrible lag.

Not the best example seeing as DR3 is so poorly made for PC :p
