| pokoko said: Why? It says "Zelda" in the title. The majority of gamers out there, especially those who spend most of their time in the Nintendo ecosystem, have no idea what a Musou game is. All they see is a new Zelda title from Nintendo. Post-release reaction from this segment will be very interesting. |
To be fair, "Zelda" actually isn't anywhere in or near the title.
That said, this is probably one of the better Musou games I've ever played and definitely the best in the last several years until we start going backwards to games with "3" in their name. As an added bonus the music and general aesthetic is easily the best of a Musou game, if that counts. When you've played shit like Fist of the North Star Musou or Warriors Orochi 3U (the meta score of which still baffles me) as of recent... you appreciate a Musou that isn't a steaming pile of shit. The items add a nice elemental shift to the gameplay and tie nicely to the bosses (who need to be tweaked, read on) to the gameplay from non-Zelda titles.
If they ever make a second one, there are a number of issues to fix: story is a bit too safe and troped -> better story, use Cia and same-Link some more (this might actually be getting fixed in the DLC). The bosses and named foes are too slow to kill and can really break the flow -> less of them or make them killable in other ways other than just having to wait for the prompt. The game is obviously also a first-off on the WiiU with whatever code they used, it can use some refinement and streamlining. (Not much can be done about the craptastic frame rate and resolution drop when in Co-Op as its the game being rendered twice, not even the PS4/X1 could handle that well.)
Also, Gannondorf's hair is a key aspect for me purchasing this game.
(If anyone wants a more detailed review of the genre and where HyWa stands, I'd point them in the direction of Jim Sterling. As he's a diehard fan of both Musou and Zelda, and is very keen on critical flaws of Musou games vs. when they are actually done well.)
