Forums - Sony - GTA 4 or MGS 4 - which will sell more PS3:s?

MGS = more consoles in Japan
GTA IV = more consoles in US / Europe

So I think GTA IV will overall move more consoles but depending upon Japan it could be close.

Of course a lot may depend on reviews - if either is judged wanting vs hype then it will likely reduce consoles sold.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

WHY will the X360 ARCADE be the "best" option

if this so called "downloadable" content will sway them, HOW & WHAT will they download it on without a hard drive

Arcade is the cheapest option and the average "GTA customer" propably doesn't even know that the downloadable content exist. Besides, if the DL content would be the reason why people buy the game, it would only sell to people who have their consoles online.

The audience for downloadable content isn't the majority anyways.

MGS bundle definately helps MGS to sell consoles, but sales still doesn't necessarily spike big numbers from normal level. Well, they do but how long.

Sorry about the multiposts. Had trouble with connection and i hit refresh few times...

GTA is a bigger game and has casual appeal, so I think it will move more PS3's though. I think MGS4 is a very important rallying point for PS3 owners though, since it may very well be THE definitive game of the year.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Thats a tough question :P I'm gonna have to go with MGS4 though ^^ I can personally name 5 people that will be buying PS3's FOR MGS4. I think to many that's the one game that is quote on quote "the push-over-the-fence". The PS3 still seems a bit too expensive to lure casual gamers :P That and MGS is bundled, which helps :P

GTA4.

I think it has much greater appeal to PS2 users that have not 'upgraded' to a HD console yet than MGS has. Obviously it has to split that boost with the 360 but it will still be a big seller on the PS3 as well.

I accept the point about Japan but in the past Japanese sales boosts have been relatively low and relatively short.

MGS4. That's a good point but I still think MGS4 will take this one. MGS4 is bigger than the other games that gave ps3 those small boosts. I may not give a huge boost but it will certainly be bigger then DW6 and DMC4(in japan).

You are completely wrong here!

GTA 4 is not a system seller. It's not only on PS3 it's 360 as well.
Also in America Microsoft are doing major ads stating DC only available on 360.

Also 360 price drop imminent.

i think mgs4 will boust ps3 everywhere but especially in japan
and for gta iv is NA and others

It is bigger game because it has casual appeal. But why would those casuals buy PS3 for GTA4? It's on 360 too and Arcade is the cheapest SKU it's available to. You could mention the lack of HDD, but if you're a casual offline gamer, you don't need the HDD.

If your a casual gamer, and you dont care about the HDD you dont care about the DL content either. If you dont care about DL content, why would you get a 360?

Casuals may not care about video games as much, but they arent dumb. They know PS3 plays Blu-Ray as well, so I'm guessing they'll get he hotter console which= the PS3. Playstation is the better selling console ATM.

AND DONT GIVE ME THAT out of stock crap. Went to target last night. Full stock 360's including Pro,Elite, Halo version. PS3 had two consoles left.

Uhm, tough question. I really have no clue, all I know is they'll both move PS3s like crazy though and that's a great thing for the PS3 and it's fanbase.
