I don't mean to ask who you'd put in your "Not-Playstation All Stars", I'm interested in the mechanics you'd use for an 'alternative fighter'.

For sake of making it easier to visual you can use Sony, Sega, Capcom, Square, Warner Bros, Disney, Marvel, DC, Toku or Microsoft for a character list. - Your design can be as like or as different from Smash (or All-Stars if you somehow feel you can give it a solid fixer-upper it) as you like, but it should be atleast as different from a traditional fighter as Smash is.

Do you feel like you could make a good one? I feel like there is a Gears of War + Mortal Kombat + Sumo/Smash hybrid just on the tip of my mind, crying out for a design document.

Keep laughing to myself because somehow Capcom's potential one in my mind feels like it'd be a 3D Smash, with Hyrule Temple sized areas, and Mecha scattered like vehicles are in, of all things, Microsoft's Halo series.

(For those curious, I imagine a 3D Smash as somewhat like a 3D Platformer with a smart but over-rideable camera on the right stick. The characters would have specials, standards, and grabs for running, standing still, and being airborne.)

I wouldn't, I'd go for a Smite-like MOBA.

There is actually nothing wrong with the gameplay design of All-Stars. It's helluva fun and most people I talk to who have played a lot of both say it does some things better than SSB and other things not as well. It just seems there's no appetite for another mascot brawler game, so why play in the same sandbox?

Interesting insight. I'd had nearly the opposite experience in college with a guy who resisted playing Smash because he'd played a small bit of All-Stars and seemed to have disliked it. Brawl had quickly hooked him, despite having to share the gamepad screen of my Wii-U and play with Wii-motes and Nunchucks. That alone left me with little regard for it.

Sony's character list is perfect, but I would make the game like powerstone like the last GOW game.

From what I've seen of Powerstone and God of War that could be a pretty solid basis for a lot of fun.

SEGA did it before Nintendo. Fighters Mega Mix. Sonic,Daytona USA,Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter. We saw what SEGA did with the Racing series taking on Mario Kart and a wonderful job. They just need to make a new Megamix with fare more SEGA characters.

This is fun news. Which would you consider the better ones? I'd like to watch some lets plays and learn some design approaches.
