Video and computer games with exceptionally strong growth
 
Winterthur, 22 Feb. 2008 - a record year for Swiss gaming industry: 2007 rose of the total sales of hardware, software and accessories by 40 percent to about 420 million francs ($395m). The success factors were an outstanding Christmas period, and the opening up of new market segments through the latest console generations and innovative games.

 
An outstanding fourth quarter with the Christmas period established a distinctive final point behind a record year for the gaming industry. Games in 2007 increased Switzerland's total  market sales of hardware, software and accessories from 300 million ($282m) to around 420 million ($395m) francs. Key drivers of growth of 40 percent were the Home consoles, which clearly stoked demand. Next Handheld consoles the last year is their market share again in about 50 percent. Overall there were in Switzerland 530'000 consoles sold. In the Home consoles Sony were still first, whilst in the handhelds Nintendo were in front.
 
Innovation as a growth driver
This growth is mainly due to a generational change of the hardware. Especially with the successful launches of the seventh Generation console with Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii and innovative games, the gaming industry to tap new market segments. "The industry shows new dimension in gaming and offers new opportunites like high definition gaming and video, online gaming and messaging and chat about the consoles. The trend in the latest-generation game consoles is therefore clear in the

2007 were approximately 3.7 million video and computer games sold in the Swiss trade. According to the increased demand for Home consoles and also the games sold identifies a clear trend reversal in favor of this category. The ongoing for some time gradual decline of PC games against the Console games are continued. 2008: consolidation at a high level expected
The momentum in the market continues unabated. After strong growth from 2007 to industry and commerce, however, assumes that the high turnover values Consolidate in 2008.
