Sony has more first party studios and similar but stronger hardware so all exclusivity deals will be transparent moneyhatting and noone is buying the cloud (atleast not yet, so there is almost no point in using it as a selling point). 

They need to ease up and start investing in other things ASAP. When I say other things I don't just mean tv and sports again, they need to start working on services that may or may not be related to gaming. Sony has morpheus, ps tv, game sharing, ps now, etc. Those things may all fail but Microsoft can't afford a wait-and-see attitude, they need to start investing yesterday or else they are going to have another windows phone situation where they show up to market 4 years late. 

Hopefully next years E3 won't just be a rehash of the past 2 where they trot out cinematic cutscenes and get praised for "focusing on games", they need to announce something new and innovative very soon. Services, not just games Microsoft.


I didn't read all of it, but it didnt take me long to disagree with pretty much everything you just typed. Microsoft just needs to keep doing what they are doing. They have a strong holiday lineup and that's what gamers want. They are continuing to pump out the system updates which are turning the Xbox One into the best media machine this generation, so they got Sony beat on that front. However, all the extra fluff like virtual reality and crap, they need to stay away from it. Why? Cause most of you will criticize the hell out of it. You will bust their balls for anything they attempt to do. Sony can get away with it, but not Microsoft. So why mess with it? Just give me games and system updates and make the Xbox One the best machine it can possibly be.

Focusing on games is important, but its how they apply that focus that makes all the difference. The 3rd party time exclusive money hatting isnt going to do anything. They need to take that money, and more, and invest it into creating more 1st party studios.

I completely and utterly disagree. What Microsoft is doing now is the best thing they could do.

Consumer trust is not something re-earned in a heartbeat. It requires commitment, it takes time, but it yields grest results. Sony sticked to the PS3 until the very last and it worked for them, especially going into the following gen. Not only is this the right strategy as its the only strategy that can lead to microsoft getting back in the race next-gen.

Unless, they want to be different from Sony in a way that they dont compete with them anymore directly. A bit like Nintendo. It would be a very different xbox and without those sure fire Nintendo franchises hmm... very difficult.

I agree with most that they need to invest and be willing to take some losses in first party studios. They shot themselves in the foot when they decided to only focus on 4 franchises.
