No one is saying it can't but when we look back at how/why it did there are no correlations. The PS4 came back because of EU and Japan globaly, two things that not only does MSFT not have the capability of doing but the PS4 is already outpacing the ratios of last gen in these areas, and likely will in Japan when the Xbox One is released. Your entire premise (or lack of premise) is built on comparing US sales (sometimes gloabally in the US) where the PS3 never caught nor sniffed the 360. So you cant point to the worldwide marketshare of the PS3 catching the 360 and extrapolate it to the US marketshare. Did you forget what you were even arguing here? 3 things lead the 360 to US domination (compared tot he PS3) last gen: 1. Full year headstart 2. Incredible price difference in additionto having a one year start of always being cheaper 3. Online infrastructure/community/friends of friends feeling compelled to play the same system coupled with point 1 Literally NONE of these variables exist this gen. There is no headstart, the prices are now equal and the PS4 is taking point 3 which will only compound MSFT's problem more long term. You have absolutely nothing in the form of a legitmate, logical argument to make. |
You forgot the bad PS3 ports. The majority of Multiplat games (escpecially the early ones) ran better on the 360 than the PS3 due to the PS3 being harder to the develop for.
The online infrastructure/Community wasn't all that bad since PS3's online was free which eventually I think Enticed more gamers to buy the Console when the price dropped.

I dont think that played a huge role in the overall 360 domination in the states though. I believe it was a variable but not a large one. Definately not to be ignored but I feel the 3 things I mentioned were the largest variables.
PS4 is selling more because of Europe, the promise of games, and all the great PR Sony has had.

Yes and no. Yes the online infrastructure was better on the 360 but people also loved how Sony's online was free, when the Console of the price dropped, people probably saw the Free online gaming as a better investment over the 360's superior but also more costly subscriptions. Letalone you could play Netflix and other online things without the subscriptions.
But I do think the Initially those 3 points is what caused Sony to fail. However you are perfectly correct to say that the majority of things are pretty even this generation in terms of what those 3 main points.
for the most part they're definately different factors as to why MS is losing so badly.

Maybe in retrospect but I remember when I traded in my 360 after the third bricked console and my god the PSN was HORRID. It was nearly non functional. It took a good 3-4 years to make the online functionality of the PSN even come close to LIVE.
I think the better multiplats and free online cancelled each other out in terms of impact with maybe even less of an impact for free online. I can give you a half rotten roast beef sandwich for free or you can pay for a well made fresh sandwich, half the size. Fresh sandwich at a cost always wins. I never really bought into people having a problem paying for LIVE and the "free online, BD player" arguments. I think in terms of how consumers react it had more to do with "what do my friends have". I also think you misremember how absolutely horrible Sony marketed the PS3. Remember the creepy baby rooms and commercials where we didnt even know it was a Playstation commercial until the very end. I remember how absolutely awful Sony handled most of the Playstations marketing in the US.
Another reason why the Playstation stabalizing due to poor marketing was "WTF" baby commercials versus the One having actual PR trouble nationwide with its original announcement. Another point to discredit the "Sony did it last gen" lack of logic argument made by Jega.
Not enjoying the ps3... let's buy a ps4 *drunk face*

Yes what friends have is also important but ALSO what was just as important was the good word of mouth.
They're many many reasons why Sony Failed at the beginning but caught up.
The majority of them being correct.
Yeah, i remember those terrible baby commercials wtf was Sony thinking.
Last Gen was something different. Though it seems like for the most part like it might end up being like the PS2 and PSone era. Nintendo always being second best since Sony went into the home console market. Though it could end up with Nintendo being even less Relevant than before because of the decisions they made this gen.

If Xbox 360 didn't exist the 30 percent Microsoft had would have been Sony's, thus Playstation 3 would have 60 percent market share to Wii's 40 percent. Sony probably would have even more may 70 percent. Almost the same as the Playstation 2 did. But because of Xbox 360 there was no Playstation domination last gen and I see the same thing happenning again. Even if this genertion ends with Playstation 4 having a 10 million lead over the Xbox One. Example: Playstation 4 100 million vs 90 million Xbox One, that is not domination. As it currently is Playstation 4 has a 4 or 5 million lead over the Xbox One. Which can shrink in my opinion. So much for Sony domination. Sony will never ever again have 75% market share because of Microsoft. |
Even if? What do you mean even if? The PS4 will have a 10 million console lead by the end of next year.
The Xbox One is getting crushed and will continue to get crushed. You don't seem to get it, the PS4 is going to be fighting for 50% marketshare this gen. The Xbox One and the WiiU will have trouble outselling it.
The PS4 is already at more than 43% marketshare and the only reason it's not higher is becuase the WiiU had a year long head start. Align the launches and the PS4 is at 54% marketshare. With aligned launches the PS4 even manages a 47% marketshare in Xbox land (U.S.A.).
I'm actually interested to see what happens with you in a few years. Will you just stop coming to the website? Or are we going to get a huge breakdown?

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
