The PSN Will Be Down for for 13 Hours Tomorrow, But You Can Still Play Online

Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that the scheduled maintenance of the PSN that was supposed to happen on Monday and was postponed due to the DDoS attack that left the service down for most of last Sunday, will actually happen tomorrow.

PSN account services, PlayStation Home or PlayStation Store will be inaccessible from 10 AM EDT to 11 PM,  for a full 13 hours of downtime.

I guess the little PlayStation elves need time to scrub those tired motherboards. Luckily according to SCE if you’ll connect with a PS4 before the maintenance or with a PS3 and PS Vita during the five hours prior to the downtime, you’ll be able to stay connected and at least continue playing online.

Some additional downtime after the scheduled maintenance is also possible.

That's the question.... Maybe it's just the store they're working on.

Well they did say that the purpose of the maintence was to upgrade Store software

however, if it doesn't affect connection, why do we have to connect BEFORE it starts? log-in goes down too but servers don't?

i'm no expert here so it confuses me a bit

Authentication is usually done by separate servers. Definitely not on the game servers. As long as you log in before and don't disconnect you should be able to play since authentication has already happened and won't occur again until some time passes.

that's some serious downtime. wonder if they are making changes in response to that DDoS attack. ..i can hope.

anyways, barely affects me as i'm at work for most of that.

does anyone know if i'll be able to play offline digital games with a ps4 that isn't activated as primary as long as I log in before maintenance starts?
