Forums - Sony - So it turns out the PS4 does have software authentication...

Dualshock was made before people complained that N64 had rumble and stick.
And this is called proprietary HW not DRM. Or DRM prevented you from using any HDD you wanted on x360 or void warrant on x1?

With an adapter you can.

Stop being so stubborn and actually give the DS4 a chance, how long have you used it 5, 10, 15 minutes?!

Borrowed my friends PS4 and used it for 4 days. The triggers and shoulder buttons are a huge improvement over the DS3 and it feels a lot less like a plastic kids toy but it is still the same archaic design. People often talk about symmetrical sticks vs assymetrical sticks but I think that misses the point. The real reason why the xbox controllers are better (imo) is because they put the most commonly used controls in dominant positions. Positions that your thumb will naturally gravitate towards. The d-pad is not very commonly used in modern games, yet it is still taking up prime real-estate on the DS4. Why?

The amount of gimmicks on the controller is also really annonying. Atleast with the sixaxis it didn't have any noticable affect on the layout. This time Sony has dropped a completely pointless touchpad smackdab in the middle of the controller forcing the start button into a really awkward position. I'm also not happy that there is a dedicated button on the controller for something I have absolutely no intention of ever using. Its awkward placement on the controller thanks to the equally gimmicky touchpad has led me to press it by accident on several occasions. The lightbar serves no purpose other than draining the battery and the mic is just another useless add on. The only thing missing is the kitchen sink.

Total BS, the toouch pad is needed it is an extra buttong it allows the share button to exist and it is used in practically every game. Almost every game I own uses the d-pad, same as last gen, some heavily like batman, 360 was terrible with the d-pad.

Archaic design??? Because sticks are not asymmetrical?? Asymmetricla is not betetr that is a fallacy.  My thumbs do NOT mnaturall gravitate that way are you deformed?

How do you press the touchpadd accidently ROFL, you slow?

The light bar has other uses like morpheus, and identifying who owns what controller, in local coop with friends this is indeed usefull, and the lightbar is hardly making the controller bad, please you are grasping.

misleading as hell,,,mods, you know what to do

btw ps4 controller is the equivalant to the vagina(greatest creation ever)...G.O.A.T controller, bow down to it and throw rose pedals at its feet

The Ds4 is the best console controller ever, the touch pad is not wasted space, if it was any smaller it would be too small.  It would be this size anyway. It is an extra button and has tonnes of practical uses like in FF14. it is used in every game, and allows for the share button to exist.

It doesn't need batteries, or an optional charge kit, analog sticks are great, great triggers, perfect size (360 and x1 always been too bulky), and has the best d-pad, it is better overall then any xbox controller because it is excellent for all games, Xbox controllers always sucked for anything not a FPS.

You have to be mentally slow to have issues using different controllers, it's not hard. On PC I have used dozens, they are all easy to adjust to and are all very similar.

Seriously if you have trouble using Ds4 i'd go to see if you have a learning disability.

Many prefer the feel of DS4 that alone disproves the morinic asymmetrical stick BS. The stiks on PS4 are outstanding, the right about of tension, very accurate, the xbox controlelrs are out of balanc,e only good for shooters, DS4 works better with all types of games, and the touch pad is outstanding for MMO's like FF14, and is an extra button devs can use.

Just buy a third party psJust buy a ps4 3rd party controller or dissassemble a ds4 and use it's board into a x1 controller, presto.

Third party controllers are terrible. I fell for that crap last gen.

Even if I was hardware inclined, I serisouly doubt that simply swapping boards would work.

Isn't Chrome Max third party? Or just a hack? And Xbox controller would be third party on Sony system. And my 2nd party  TR5000 whell works well.

And how would you use the trackpad commands on x360 controlsome Games use it.

Your arguments are weak and unconvincing. I already explained that I have no intention of ever using the share button so why should I be happy that the touchpad allows it to exist? The share functionality could have easily been a menu option. There is ZERO reason for it to be its own dedicated button.

Also, the 360 d-pad has been perfect for since 2010. Its been fixed a long time ago, people who claim the d-pad on the 360 doesn't work have to be using a controller from 2007 or something because my 360 d-pad has been just as reliable as the playstation d-pad. Also, games like batman do not use the d-pad more than the left stick. The only genre that might use d-pad more than left-stick is fighting games and some people prefer left stick for those as well.

Again, not because they are not asymettrical. I clearly stated in my post that that was not the issue and I explained what the real issue was. Also see the last sentence of the above paragraph.

I never said I pressed the touchpad accidentally. I said I pressed the share button accidentally. If you are going to fail at reading comprehension then maybe you shouldn't be so quick to accuse someone of being slow.

Don't care about morpheus. Also a lightbar was not necessary to indentify who owns a controller on the ps3 so why is it necessary now? The lightbar is not what makes the controller bad, it is just another thing on a long list.

Third party controllers a madcatz, etc. Chronus max is not a controller it is just an adapter. An xbox controller would not be a third party on sony's system because sony has not licensed its use.

So the touchpad issue would be awkward no doubt. But I'm confident that most developers will quickly abandon that gimmick just like they abandoned sixaxis. On the ps3 I used an xbox 360 even on games with sixaxis controls. My adapter had a way of mapping it but it was very annoying and cumbersome. Fortunately most games made after 2009 stopped using it altogether. Most third party games on ps4 will either not use it at all or they will relegate it to something unimportant.
