Forums - Gaming - “PS3 Version Was Not Running As Well” - Dark Sector Almost Canned

Josh Austin, Producer for Digital Extremes’ Dark Sector, let slip that the PS3 version of the game was almost scrapped. Read on to see his exact words.

“So, yeah, this is the PS3 version, umm… it looks just as good as the 360 version, which we’re very happy about. Towards the end we started having some serious conversations about what we were gonna do, uh, but we ended up pulling it off, so we’re very proud of that.”

I ask for clarification on what that meant, and he replied simply “It was just not running as well as the 360″. We continued the conversation about these problems, only we went off the record so I won’t discuss it further.

Well....personally if Dark Sector had been scrapped I wouldn't have shed any tears, and they seemed to have fixed the issues so good going them.

...

I guess only good developers get the PS3, lol j/k.

I'm looking forward to this, story and gameplay both look great and I'm more than happy to help home grown talent.

but at the end, the guy say :

both version are good ?

or

Xbox360 version is superior ?

Time to Work !

Surprise, surprise, the Dark Sector devs were also using the Unreal 3 Engine.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The Unreal Engine is crap, the PS3 is hard to program for, no surprises here.

"If you don't like me, bite me!"

Oh well, it seems there are other games coming out that utilize the PS3 well. COD4 proved that intelligent programmers can make quality games on the 360 as well as the PS3.

Im pretty sure they are using their own engine(I THINK I read this somewhere). Either way the programmers are at partially at fault for not being to be able work the PS3 correctly. I really think that coming out of the gate first for 360 helps them a LOT in that dept.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
