Forums - General - Serenity: The most entertaining space opera made in the last 20 years

I don't compare Serenity to the original trilogy just because those movies have been so idolized (and I do love those movies)

But the prequels really didn't impress me much. It's not they're fault, it's mine. I don't have A.D.D. My attention span is too long. The overwrought action scenes just left me with a headache. I've seen them each once and may again try them in the future... But I just didn't like them at all.

In fact, my disappointment in those movies made me doubt my ability to enjoy popcorn fare. I began to think that perhaps I was just too jaded and cynical. Maybe the Matrix 2 and 3 didn't suck, maybe it was me. I began to believe that I was just some film curmudgeon that couldn't let go and just be entertained. Then Serenity came and proved me wrong. I can enjoy awesome action movies with great effects. They just have to be good action movies with great effects.

I actually really liked this movie, I thought it was just gonna be a sci-fi piece o' crap but it was pretty awesome. Do you guys recommend firefly?

 Yes

Loved the show, loved the movies.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Man I saw the movie before I watched the show. I absolutely loved it. I actually just finished up watching the episodes last week. I sure as hell wish they got a second chance because the show is just damn incredible.

I could never really get into star wars. It is just way way way way to far fetched to me. I like things that have an equal balance of reality and fantasy/scifi. There was barely any scientific facts behind technology in sw. My favorite scifi show is stargate sg1 because it has both religion, morals , science and culture inside on package. It is scifi but still contains reality in it. Same thing for stargate atlantis.

Wash: Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction.

Zoë: We live in a spaceship, dear.

Wash: So?

Serenity was awesome. I have the movie and the full series on DVD. Will watch again.

I like Firefly more than Serenity. My best friend and I watched Fox Friday night together. Our favorite shows were Fireflyand John Doe. I bought him the Firefly DVD's for his birthday and we watched all of the episodes in a row. Then we had to pee. Luckily his house has two bathrooms.

I'd have to say Firefly was much better than those Lucas cash cows. I thought the Star Wars prequels where horrible.

Jane was my favourite character in the show. Makes me think of Soriku, now. ;)

I need to get around to seeing the movie.

I have watched the series and the movie at least 5 times through each. One of my favorite sci-fi drama's ever on any form of media. Hilarious, stylistic, deep, and full of great action. This is a must watch series for ANY science fiction fan, and comparing it to Star Wars Episodes 1-3 is an insult to the greatness of Firefly and Serenity.
