Forums - Gaming - Original pickmin discovered to be playable in PC

Now this is some strange news. It was discovered today that the original Pikmin GameCube disc holds a hidden, playable version of Nintendo’s beloved real time strategy game, accessible only when played on a PC. But while the game does run, it isn’t the full GameCube version. Riddled with glitches and crashes and lacking any sound at all, this PC version of Pikmin is an extremely unique experience. Players can mess with the game further by accessing the debug mode, making all sorts of changes and development options available. It’s discoveries like this that make you wonder just how many undiscovered secrets remain in the gaming world. Want to try it for yourself? Instructions on how to access the files can be found here.

All developers should do this.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Nintendo almost went third party confirmed.

so they left an old dev build on the disc? that's odd

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Hopefully some modders can have their way with the unfinished portions and make it playable!

Pikmin ROM hacks incoming? Or do we already have those thanks to Dolphin?

My speculation: It was probably PC game. But later Nintendo liked their idea. Miyamoto put his ideas to make it console friendly. But original build remained. Plus camera angle also suggests it is best suited as PC game.

I have it on my comp, had a mess around with it, just seems like an early development version running a dolphin debugger.

In essence, it's actually a tool from the SDK that should not have been left there, so a more interesting outcome would be if the tool could be used to make other games run natively, the dolphin emulator team have already, long ago, ripped the exe and plugins apart for ways to improve their emulators performance.
