Everyone says that but I don't see why. Sony are making a profit on each unit sold. They are guranteed to win this generation so why drop the price if its selling well at $399?

To keep the XBO from eating into their marketshare. I've said it several times here at VGC, but the only hope the XBO has at catching up in the U.S. and UK is by getting below the PS4 in price and hoping Sony doesn't immediately follow up on a price cut of their own. Having a higher launch price is the biggest thing that killed the XBO's momentum. Having a lower current price will help it rebuild momentum. Sony is guaranteed to win globally, but if they wait too long to issue a price cut when the XBO gets one, things may end up being a lot closer in the U.S. & UK.
EDIT: Nevermind. I didn't see that last post. Looks like no price cut anytime soon. In any case, I still stand by my argument that any price cut made by MS will be quickly matched by Sony. It wouldn't be the first time two competing systems had price parity the whole generation. I think we'll most likely see a price cut for both the PS4 and XBO next year as reduced production costs make a price cut more viable.

True, but I think that the disastrous reveal of X1 has hurt Xbox's reputation for the rest of the generation. If X1 never had those policies and restrictions, they might have been winning in the US and UK, even if the price was higher than PS4. The ruined reputation is why I think that If MS lowers the price now, it wouldn't hurt the PS4 significantly. In fact, even if the PS4 is $50 more expensive than the X1, I think PS4 would still sell more than North America and the UK.
Also a company like Sony, which isn't doing very well financially, would want to make as much money as possible. Right now I think profit is more important to them.
