Fair enough, I should say might harm sales considerably, but their is no evidence to suggest it won't have a sufficient effect. And its not just lack of DLNA or MP3, those or just examples, there are many things that Sony said the PS4 would be able to do that it hasn't yet. Concrete measurable things, not ephemeral unrealistic statements that like PS4 would be able to power your refrigerator or car. |
Actually you are mistaken. If you look at all the things sony said the PS4 would be able to do, as of right now there is only ONE thing it hasn't done yet. Thats "instant game resume" or "resume from standby". Game streaming (PSnow), game sharing (PSshare/twitch/ustream), snappy OS..etc are all things sony trumpeted with the PS4. And they are already doing all these things. They have even gone above their original promises and included twitch to ustream and announced project morpheus.
Not once did sony say the PS4 will play MP3s or DLNA. It was never in any official press release or document pre launch. These are just things that people expect it to do simply cause the PS3 did them. This is why i stil stand by them being "internet/fanwarz" problems. Cause I really doubt anyone walking into a store to buy a PS4/XB1/WiiU walks out with on over the other primarily cause it doesn't do DLNA or play MP3s. Just don't see that impacting sales at all much less impacting them considerably.
I dare say this is the first sony console where sony actually delivered on a majority of all they promised. Mostly an easy feat since the didnt promise that much to begin with and just capitalized on things their competitor shouldn't have promised. The PS4 was for the most part seen as the better console simply cause they came out and said, "hey, we are doing these new things on the PS4 (share button, controller and better OS) and going to keep everything else the same".
