Looking at the list of 2009, seems like there's a lot of stuff from that year I still need to watch My picks though would be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and, kind of a personal guilty pleasure, Eden of the East.

Damn...2009 was a good year. Darker than Black, Fairy Tail, K-on!, Eden of the East...

My pick has to go to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood though. For anyone that isn't aware of it (somehow), it's a story about two brothers who practice alchemy. I'd go on...but I suppose there's already a synopsis on the first page, so I'll leave it there.

Brotherhood is the second anime adaptation of the original manga, which ended up diverting from the original story due the source material moving at a much slower pace than the anime. The first was fantastic, but with some faults...and a very odd and (imo) contrived conclusion. Brotherhood, following the story of the original manga, fixed all these flaws...and told a much more cohesive story overall. The characters were fantastic, the story remained interesting the entire time, and every plot twist felt natural, as if it was planned out well ahead of time.

I watch a lot of anime in this genre, and one of my biggest issues is how eventually most of the cast becomes pointless in order to build up the MC. In Brotherhood...that wasn't the case at all. Every character had a huge impact on the end, and the final fight absolutely blew my mind for that reason. I really got the impression that every member of the cast mattered...I get excited just thinking about everyone joining together for that epic fight. Any character death had a huge impact on the overall story, and wasn't done purely for shock value, and the characters that lived were all indispensable to the plot. That in particular is why I have such a high opinion of this anime...among plenty of other qualities that I've already mentioned.

It also has one of my favorite anime openings ever...I still listen to it now and again.

The full song is awesome too. One of the most addicting songs imo.

Some of the anime I mentioned are some underrated gems.  I might have to rewatch some of those.

One of the greatest cameo scenes ever from Natsu no Arashi!

Ame from Denpa Teki na Kanojo was so awesome, though I can see how it would be awkward to have a girl suddenly swear to be your disciple.

Maria Holic was a lot of fun, though it was defiintely not like everything else.

The main characters couldn't be more different from each other.

And Sasameki Koto, the actual yuri anime.

I haven't seen School Rumble being mentioned for a long time.

Big Order is disappointingly average compared to Future Diary ...

The author took a huge step backwards, it'll be even lucky to get a 5/10 ...

Nothing has made sense so far and we're already PAST halfway in ?!

Why would anything make sense? It's an action comedy. It lives from the dynamics between the character which I think are great. It feels fresh because you rarely get animes where the female MCs actually want to kill the MC instead of being just tsundere bitches.

In recent episodes it seems she's kind of forgotten she wants to kill him and is just being regular tsundere though...

Besides, it makes the MC look like an idiot. Girl: 'I want to kill you' *attempts to stab*    Guy: 'Let's be friends :)'

Come on.... who would really attempt to befriend/worry about someone that was trying to kill them?

Don't pretend as if the idiot male MC is a new trope. Male MCs are the worst in every single anime. That's where there shouldn't even be any males in anime. Would make everything so much more enjoyable.
