The process was slower and way less efficient. Before the business guy had to go to his home or the office to check the the email, if an emergency comes out, he would have to wait longer periods of times to respond. Before this was done with a simple call, but what if the problem at hand needs a file? you have to send it via email. Another example, let's say you have a big important interview with a client, but because of traffic you can't reach the office in time, so you use Skype on your phone and have the interview. Another, you connect to a server via remote access and again you are in a stuck in traffic, you can connct with your phone to that remote server and start working. |
Ever heard of Blackberries? Ever heard of UMTS cards for Laptops? The invention of smartphones did not do much to improve work efficiency of professionals.

The BlackBerry interface was terrible, and the software barely usable, that's why you can scarcely find a hard keyboard smartphone anymore.
And there's simply no comparison between a computer you carry in a bag and use in your lap to a computer that fits in your pocket and is usable one-handed. Laptops are only now getting battery performance to rival smartphones, but a large clamshell form factor will never be as portable and usable on the go.
If how a tool performed its task didn't matter, carpenters would be using rocks to drive nails, because rocks are cheap. But I guess carpenters find value in the balance, leverage, and flat striking surface that hammers provide, despite a rock being all they "need".

20$ on lunch? That's considered a lot by Apple? Wut...
Anyhow, Apple should learn that the games on their store aren't worth double digits. There may be a couple gems in the App Store, but much of them are crap. The key here is 'quality control.'
Apple needs to make games available for "evaluation" period like a few hours or maybe 1 day, depending on the game. I'd never buy a game (except maybe $0.99 ones) unless I know I really like it. However, there are many games I'd have paid a lot more than $4 if I had known about them before.
So the issue here is "awareness". We should be able to try games out before purchasing!

Ah man, I remember when flip phones were the cool upgrade.
The Nokia 5110 is yet to be beaten!

There are still significant numbers of professional services firms using Blackbery. My company does. The UI is fine. Please dont claim things that are incorrect.

An iPad does more than a video game ever will, coffee keeps a lot of people going in the morning and - excuse us for wanting to fucking FEED ourselves, Apple. It's a video game, it's entertainment. If it isn't worth 4 bucks then it just isn't. (Tbh iPad's aren't worth $600 but I digress.) |
Was going to say something similar
Smartphones, coffee and food are seen as necessities these days. Games aren't
You can still find Blackberries. I am typing on mu workhorse Q10... I also have a Galaxy S4 that I clearly made a mistake getting... BB10 is a beautiful OS not having to use buttons to navigate... I plan on selling it and grabbing a BlackBerry Passport this year. I made the mistake leaving BlackBerry once before that is never happening again :-p

Blackberries are smartphones aren't they? The work efficiency has improved a lot with the rise of the smartphone. the speed advantage of not having to be at your desktop to read an email is insane.. the communcation between you and a client is much faster nowadays.. even between co-workers it has been improved.. a storage manager can recieve the orders directly on the floor on his smartphone and doesn't need to go back to his office to check his mail..
More mail is opened on mobile then on a desktop
Sure depending were you work, it might not have been a improvement.. but for a lot of industries it did..
