Forums - Gaming - Just answer me this - why the HELL is EA buying up everything?!

It works for Microsoft. That is one of the things why some people don't like Microsoft. They spend more time buying their competition (when they are relatively nice), otherwise they just drive them out of business...

You might have something there. I think it would make more sense if EA had started hiring former MS executives.

As everyone knows, it is about making money. But, asking for violence against EA is not appropriate because EA never initiated force against you or anyone else. It sounds like you need to seriously consider the nature of similar posts in the future. Encouraging senseless violence is not a good thing. If you don't like EA, by all means, spread the word. However, people will take you more serious if you do it with some tact.

Also, EA is not being up every company and doesn't want to be a monopoly. I am pretty sure they are not the largest company involved with gaming (MS is) nor one of the largest couple game companies.

The model to make money in gaming is changing and it is becoming harder and harder on game companies. One of the ways EA things it can improve its situation is to expand.

Also, most gamers don't hate EA. I think EA is an OK company, I am just bored to tears by most of their games and don't appreciate some of their practices (like producing a new version of some many games every year).

Perhaps they realise that shitty yearly sports/racing sequels are not going to help them this generation, perhaps because shitty yearly sports/racing sequels don't sell on the Wii.

EA said they urgently want to pull up their average game scores. The easiest way for them to do that isn't to think of better game ideas, it's easier to buy up developers who will do that for them.

It's unlikely, but what it EA DID decide to release a console? Games like Mass Effect and GTA4 would be potential exclusives! Who wouldn't buy that system? It would have more big time titles than Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft's systems combined! It's kind off scary when you think about it.

EA will never release a console because part of their NFL exclusivity deal involves them making the game for all consoles. If they breach that, they lose the contract.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Because they have the money to do so. I know there is alot of EA hate but I believe is way overrated. Yes they buy companies but is those companies that keep on making the crappy games. Also seems EA never gets credit when they make good games LOL. Again all this EA hate is way overrated and quite frankly if people hate them so much then STOP buying their games and quit whining like they are going to magically disappear. That is my rant :)

Good to Know.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

Maybe that's why they want 2k sports. You know. Just sayin'...

i wonder if they are gearing up to get some type of hardware out...this would give them a pretty good shot at exclusive games for something

I just wrote a huge theory on that on another site. I wouldn't be surprised if their goal is to build a console. They have more than enough money, companies, franchise, and people to work on it. And EA has complained before about the "headaches of making cross-platform games" and how much they want to see a unified video game format.
