Forums - Gaming - I've come to the realization that most first party Nintendo games suck.

This is opinion only, but for multiconsole owners and players such as myself, whenever talking about what developers create the best first party games, you might say Nintendo, Sony/Microsoft, then the other, or Sony/Microsoft, Nintendo, then the other.  Rarely do people place Nintendo last because of their long list of amazing first party titles they've developed in the past and the games we're interested in playing from the company are usually great.  Multiconsole owners have the mindset that Nintendo games are always atleast decent because we just don't play many games outside of  those that we really want, and it's not like you ever hear anything bad from a Nintendo fan about all of these games, right?

We expect some terrible or completely average games once in awhile, but when we really only purchase the games we're interested in and avoid pretty much everything else because Nintendo's policy of never dropping below MSRP, it doesn't really stand out as much how many bad releases they push out on average.  So because of this buy one get one free sale from Best Buy, I decided I'd get games that I wouldn't purchase at full price but the games being $17.50 or $20 a piece, I had no problem purchasing because hey, it's a Nintendo game and Nintendo games are always atleast decent, right?

Kirby Triple Deluxe is good.  It's a bit easy, but between the main game which I've finished two worlds so far and what I've played of the other two modes, it's pretty fun.  Two of the other games I've played.  Yoshi's New Island and Tomodachi Life though, were just terrible.  Yoshi's New Island is one of the worst platformers I've played in a long time.  Tomodachi Life, as mentioned in another thread, has some okay events that consist of a little bit of gameplay, but mostly consists of doing menial tasks for the islanders.  Zelda I haven't played, and maybe I shouldn't assume it's a good game, but I will anyways.

So it got me thinking of other Nintendo first party titles I've got burned on and when thinking about itI've held little to no enjoyment of over 50% of the Nintendo titles I've played in the past decade.

Next time a thread comes up about rating first party games, Nintendo will no longer be sitting in second place.  And I'll no longer attempt to take advantage of any sort of deal to get Nintendo games that might be good.  I think I'll just stick with the few interests I still have with the company.  Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Xenoblade, and 2D Metroid.

No longer in second place? Who was in first?

Who's on first.

I've come to the polar opposite opinion lately. While the other two companies spend all their time releasing generic murder sims with dark themes that we've played a billion times since it became trendy in the late 90's, Nintendo is releasing software like Pushmo, Wonderful 101 and Tomodachi life. While the other two are busying releasing hardware that is basically the same thing with more horsepower, Nintendo is releasing a full on tablet controller. While the other two are pushing online game play that we've had for years now, Nintendo is pushing online COMMUNITY with Miiverse.

I've been gaming for about 30 freakin' years and it's that freshness that keeps gaming fun for me. I'm tired of the status quo, hum drum shooter/murder junk.

Honestly I can't say I completely disagree. A lot of your threads have been to reduce the praise Nintendo gets, without realizing that most Nintendo fans are not blind at all to Nintendo's flaws, and the threads are pretending that we are. They also ignore the amount of unwarranted HATE Nintendo gets on a regular basis. There is no need for balancing it out because it gets overly praised at times and overly hated at other times, so these types of threads are not necessary.

I bash all three consoles equally.  You may only see me hating on Nintendo because maybe you do nothing but stick to Nintendo threads. I call it as I see it, and it doesn't matter if it's Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo.

Here's a recent ban I've received for a post I made in a Sony thread.  http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=186676

your list consists of games which I as a huge Nintendo fan since the NES consider really minor franchises excluding kirby which as others have stated, is Nintendo's easy franchise.

Try and keep in mind that when you look at each companies aggregate metascore. Nintendo's is only slightly different than Microsoft and Sony's.

Like all companies, they have some games targetted at weird audiences and aren't produced as well as a core Nintendo franchise. I could easily play Start the Party! Save the World which is a bad Sony title and say Sony games suck as well.

Ah well. On Metacritic you'll find that on average their games are scored better than that of most other big video game developers like Ubisoft and Activision(even if its lower than ones like Rockstar's). Every big developer has its own army of oddities. I've already said this, but I like Nintendo mainly because of Zelda. Just remember that while you may not like 80% of their games doesn't mean nobody does.

Obviously Nintendo's games aren't for everybody. I agree you have to be picky though like with any other publisher around even if you're primarily in their camp. I usually have the feeling with others, the games just aren't 'there'. WIth a few exceptions though of course. We just live in mediocre times.

Still, with all the warning signs I just refuse to believe Yoshi's New Island is a bad game, the original is to me the single best 2D platformer ever made and even the DS sequel was above decent. How bad can it be !

OP, I 100% agree. I cant stand the mario and friends anymore.

Nintendo's first party games are among the best first party games in the business. Maybe not the most technical achievements, but nothing is more fun than playing Super Smash Bros in my opinion. That alone...

Currently own:

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Maybe you ought to do just a tiny bit of research before you decide to randomly buy games next time.
Most reviews agreed Yoshi's New Island was pretty bad, and that Tomodachi life is a peculiar game that's unlike regular games and definitely not for everyone.

Seriously, I've never heard of anyone ever just randomly buying games of any publisher, and then complain when they turn out to be bad or not to their tastes. X'D
