Forums - Gaming - Harrison: Non-gamers see controllers as live guns

I love how it was called a "non game centric device", that's awesome. Also controllers have not gotten too complicated, screw that. People should be able to understand a controller. Let the casuals adapt, not the other way around, jeez...... Anywa, many games need more than a few buttons.

i think the casual will be a big boon for everyone, then we will have a few hardcore gens and then bring a a bunch of new blood again

i guess xbox and playstation will have a wii mote kind of controller next gen

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!

i think the real key to the wii mote is motion and its port at the bottom---i mean you could make anything and plus t in--need extra buttons for a fighter...wiimote is not perfect

Modern controllers -are- way too complicated. Your ability to use a 360 controller has nothing to do with you being smarter than anybody else - we can use modern controllers because we grew up with simpler controllers and were eased into them. I would imagine that most of us have spent a great deal of time using controllers without dual analog control. We were eased into things with the single stick on the N64 controller and early shooters like Goldeneye. But give someone new to gaming a 360 controller and Halo 3 and watch as they spin in circles while shooting at the ground.

Interfacing via two analog joysticks is a very, very difficult task for someone who hasn't had, at the very least, months of practice. The best thing that the Wiimote brings to the table is one fewer stick.

Although of course I support the Wiimote, it's BS that other controllers are too complicated. Of course you've gotta get used to them a little bit, but they make playing games a lot easier. I don't want to insult anybody, but these people seem somewhat simple-minded, thinking that everything should come in such a way you can immediately understand it.

What makes you think so? The thing that people are looking from their gadgets is ease to use. You propably have a mobile phone? Which phone would you choose, a phone from the 80:s, which was the size of 360, battery lasted hour or two and the phone weigted several kilograms, or a todays phone which fits your palm (and any pocket for that matter), weighs hundred grams and battery lasts hours of talking? Of course you need to get a little used to the mobile from 80:s, but it makes talking a lot easier. It's a little simple-minded to think that everything should come in such a way that they would be practical to use. I mean, just look at what happened to mobile phones market after the phones became more practical.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

So i am not the only one who holds the sixaxis like a gun sometimes?

Simple controls rock which is why Nintendo has kicked so much ass all these years. One big reason my friends and I love the WWE games like No Mercy compared to Smackdown was because of the simple controls anyone that would come by would be able to play right away. The buttons where practically the same for all the wrestlers except they did different moves for each motion etc. Basicall you had punch and grab then hard punch and hard grab then up,down, left or right for the different move you wanted to pull off wether in regular grab or hard grab. It was simple and easy to explain and gave each wrestler easily 8 moves they could do. As much as I love the xbox controller I always felt it was dumb to add that white and black button especially for th bulky one it was just retarted.
