In that case wii wins - but I think overall, if you consider money coming in - third party support - how long the console lasted etc. then ps3 won.

The Wii for sure brought in more money than the PS3. Remember it was sold at a massive lose for 3 years.

People predict wii to sell more 4M? that is wishful thinking as well. it won't surpass PS1 ever.

Yeah I agree, it has little or no chance to sell more than the PS1.

The PS3 doesn't have monster legs like the PSX or the PS2, so my answer is no!

ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE PS1 WHEN YOU SAY PSX? THEY ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS

I don't know why people refer to PS1 as PSX...

Its because Sony's codename for the PS1 when it was being developed was the PSX. Tihs wasn't a problem until they released a console in Japan who's actually name was PSX.

The PS3 needs a significant price drop for that to happen.

But there a still rumors circulating that Sony is working on a 22nm Cell and 28nm RSX chip. That could potentially lower official prices for a SKU with flash storage to sub-150$ within the next 1-2 years.

But even than I expect the Wii to win the battle, if only narrowly.

I'd say no.

More because I don't think Sony will produce enough consoles or be a aggressive enough with the price. They will want to make as much as possible from the next 15mish. Consoles.

No, unless they release a new super sleek, SSD equipped PS3 with the new PS4 interface, they won't be able to catch on with Wii.

However, PS3 is and will be beneficial in the PS4 success, while the Wii is a detriment to the Wii U

Let's assume that the Wii stops selling today. No more units sold.

The PS3 is 18,100,000 units behind the Wii (according to VGC).

So for the PS3 to catch the Wii...

it would need to sell 174,038 units a week for 2 years to catch up.
it would need to sell 116,025 units a week for 3 years to catch up.
it would need to sell 87,019 units a week for 4 years to catch up.

The PS3 is currently selling at half that last number (44,781) which would make it almost 8 years for PS3 to catch the Wii.

I'm going to say no.

I just can't see it happening.

The gap is too large.

The gap is almost a GC, yep.
But the PS2 managed to sell 50% more (100 > 150) after the PS3 launch. I know that the PS2 was a beast and PS3 is not, but 80 > 100 would be a 25% jump and don't sound impossible, but really hard.

The PS2 was still getting supported though wasn't it? I honestly doubt after Persona 5 that PS3 will get much more support.

not gonna happen

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

PS3 will be lucky to reach 92 million, let alone 100 million.
