360 was bad but the one is fine any ad I've seen on it is either for a game or something I can don't on the one. Unlike the ps4 which has a slim Jim ad

Never seen that one, never even heard about it. I know there was some promo, but I haven't seen it advertised on the home screen.

From what I can tell, the One has a "Recommended" section, which is smaller than the 360 ads, but still pushes you three tiles which have nothing to do with your own content.

idk where it was i jsut remember seeing a pic of it.  looking at my 3 featured tiles they are form top to bottom transformers, destiny, and games with gold nothing to complain about inmo

Why are gamers such whiney babies?? What's on every fucking newspaper, magazine, bluray or sports match you BOUGHT? That's right, ADZZZ!!!

Are people crying on the internet because of this? No. Why? Because they aren't gamers I guess...

So gamers should just roll over and accept shitty corporate moves? If your phone or PC had ads covering most of the home screen, how would you feel? Would you be fine with that? I pay Microsoft a lot more than I pay for any of those products, so I don't expect ads out of them. They don't need the extra money, hell, Sony and Nintendo are in much worse shape and STILL don't show so many "ADZZZ".

I'm not hugely okay with them, I always felt like Microsoft was trying to sell me stuff more than just encouraging me to play my games.

Really, all I want in my interface is: (in this order)
- Start game in disc
- Netflix
- Digital games
- Achievements/Trophies
- Friends list, though it's less important

I always buy the games on my PC and don't really want to be sold stuff. I know the "cursor" is on the game by default, but it still pissed me off when I look at it.

The advertising games stuff is fairly okay, but I used to get adverts for broadband. Let's not forget, this was in an age when I was getting PS online for free, then having to pay for Xbox Live Gold and seeing adverts.

To be fair, Sony did something fairly similar with their "What's New" section on the XMB, though it's basically gone on the PS4.

And finally, when you launch Steam, you see a web store!

You need to play games buddy and stop staring at uninmportant tiles.

Point blank period. I could be bitching how bland the PS UI is and it's not as colorful as Xbox but you know what? I play games, I don't pay attention to that shizzle.

Well said. I only found out MS had adverts early last year and this shocked me really. The idea go charging £200 for a console then £40 a year to have the privilege to connect the game you just spent £40 on be able to connect to it to it's online features wasn't bad enough, then they add a 3rd line of revenue for them.

Most companies only ever do max 2 of the 3 streams of revenue in media, subscription, one-offs (one large purchase or many small) and/or adverts. Even then they aren't direct. BBC has 1 set fee. ITV are technically free but fund using adverts only. Sky is a subscription based service, the subscription pays for the right to watch their TV channels (the subscription pays for the network not the channels) the free HD box and setup usually as well. They then have adverts on their channels to help fund the channel themselves (movies are uninterupted unlike Film4 which is doesn't require a subscription but has adverts in the films).

MS has all 3, pay the one off large sum, pay for the subscription and have adverts directed at you as well.

Hmm, pie.

I don't even notice them, even in the screens.

If you want your games there then goto the Games tab.

I don't see the point of this thread.

On the XBO I just pin everything I use to my pins tab and use that. Its quite a simple and easy process.

Well, I barely notice them. Most of the time they're adverts for other games, which I appreciate, and from time to time some random football crap or Adidas. Also, MS insisting on me switching to Xbox Live Gold.

No complains from me here.

So I guess ads on your phone or desktop home screen would be fine too, since they don't take away from the functionality?

And yes, the ads do take away from my gaming experience. I want ALL my games displayed on the home screen for easy access, or at least sone games and apps. It keeps things better organized and gives me more control over a $300 console that I have to pay $60 a year just to access the internet and get ads from Microsoft.

to a certain extent i'm okay with ads. i think ads that promote new game releases and sales are okay. honestly,. i kind of like it because maybe i didn't know a flash sale was going on and i'd miss it without a prompt.

...but if i got ads for doritos or pizza hut and the such i'd be quite annoyed. part of the reason my only tv service is netflix is because it lacks ads. why anyone would pay for hulu and then still have to sit through ads is beyond me. and cable,.. what a joke. for something that costs $60 a month the amount of ads is ridiculous. i'd never accept that service again and i'm glad i haven't supported cable in over 10 years now.

Yeah, that's the problem. I don't need ads for Adidas or political debates or ESPN. A flash sale reminder is fine, but ads covering the entire screen is not. A lot of the games advertised aren't even on sale or anything.
