Forums - Gaming - TitanFall(EA) vs Destiny(Activision)

Ubisoft has really impressed me lately. They aren't releasing GOAT type games but they are releasing some very good games and consistently. Rayman legends, AC, Watchdogs all great games I've enjoyed. In the middle of watchdogs now but really enjoying it.

EA still has Bioware so they'll always get that money from me.

I blame the developers and management for Titanfall. Great game, but at launch it seemed so barebones. Which is crazy because it was supposed to be a launch game.
Right now it feels like a full retail game, but that is months after updates.

No mod support for PC is also a let down.

I am sure Titanfall 2 will fix the first's mistakes.

Still love the mobility in the game, but the community on XBO at least just does not communicate nor talk. Unlike CoD where you can get a lobby full of everyone talking smack. Makes the game more fun for me at least. Competitive is good.

I urge anyone that wants to play armchair quarterback on the whole Titanfall/EA/MS thing to read The Final Hours of Titanfall.

The game was already delayed a couple times and was truly close to be completely canceled. MS essentially saved the game and Sony told Respawn to take a hike when they inquired about "next gen" systems during development.

I was literally just about to post that we should all chip in a dime or so and buy the forum a copy of that piece so that it would save a lot of these threads from existing. People would then understand the sheer hell that was the development of this game, all the risks involved, and they'd understand exactly why EA was in the position they were in and why MS swooped in and saved it.

Furthermore Titanfall has sold great and they have an agreement to make multiple future games. It's not as if Titanfall is dead or something, lol.

Yep I understand why Sony did what they did they wanted to keep their system specs secret and didn't want MS to know what was going on it was a smart move clearly because MS was surprised they had the weaker console. They lost Titan Fall but that clearly very little if any damage to their sales.

While Titan Fall to me was a big let down to me one thing I couldn't deny is their is a ton of potential in this game they can do so much more and I hope now EA will give them the money they need to do just that. First off a single player campaign seems like is could be amazing in a game like this if done right. Second off they need more game modes and options. Get rid of the bots or at least include a mode without bots. One thing about that game is I'll never be able to play it if they don't get rid of the bots period. They kill my mood everytime I think I'm killing a person and it's just a bot.

I like some games that involve EA,like battlefield, but I agree with you for the most part.

How do you not know you are killing a bot?  Bots are ignorable for the most part.  In attition they only offer a point.  12 bot kills = 1 pilot kill.

I dont know why people give EA crap for titanfall. They dont even own the ip. Why would they pump huge amounts of money into an ip they dont own, only had a one game publishing deal with, and developed by an unproven studio?

If EA was going to throw a ton of money at an ip, im sure it would be with an ip that they had a bit more control of. Activision is the same way. They locked down destiny for a freaking decade.

As stated before, 3rd party exclusive are a bad idea, and Titanfall is a great example.  Exclusivity probably halved the total expected sales for Titanfall.  It could have sold an additional 3-4 million for PS4/PS3 which is about another (4million * $60) $240 million of revenue.  MS got a good deal for getting Titanfall exclusive to Xbox1, but Respawn probably didn't get $240 million to cover for the loss of sales.

I pretty much agree with all you've said, just wanted to point out that Respawn wouldn't get anywhere near that $240 million figure. The shop takes $10, MS takes $10, packaging cost $5, publisher takes money, eitherway, I think they probably only got $15. So $60 million maybe but here is the thing I still don't think MS paid that much to keep the team working.

Hmm, pie.

You actually prefer the online community of COD?

People's stereotypical views are not accurate.  Most games I join I hear dudes in their 20s or 30s.  If I play at certain hours I can find the teens.  But teammates talking makes the game enjoyable for me.  You'll get a squeaker sometimes, easy to mute, but some don't troll so its sometimes fine.

I can catch on pretty quickly that they aren't real but I don't like that second or two of confusion from a distance it's annoying. I just really hate that part of the game and wish they would remove it or at least include a mode without it.

Im not sure if people in this thread realize EA's stock price has gone up by 300% since 2012..........

This is true, EA bottomed out in 2009-2012 and has been on steady recovery.  Still a long way from their prime of 2004-2009 though, stock is worth roughly 60% what it was back then.
