Forums - Sony - Naughty Dog’s Unannounced Game Is AAA; Departed Character Artist Worked on Uncharted 4's Nathan Drake

I think I'd rather see another Last of Us game before ND moves on to a New I.P.

Yeah I know they struck gold with The Last of Us, but creating another I.P. seems a bit risky plus it is long a process, Drake's Fortune development started in 2004 (3 years of development) and while TLOU started development in 2009 (4 years of development), the idea arose back in 2006!

2015 Uncharted 4
2017 The Last of Us 2 or New I.P.
2019 New I.P. or TLOU 2 or U5

You didnt understand what I was saying. But that's my fault on my poor choice of words. You said "You really can't be sure of these things anymore after Ubi pulled a Child of Light." . Do you think that Sony will let ND make a game like that?

Yes. As far as I understood ND has all the freedom they want. I don't think Sony would mindtoo much if they'd developed a smaller game for a while. I mean it's still Naughty Dog and what they touch could be the next Minecraft.

Sony controls Naughty Dogs moves but separated them so they could efficiently make more games. They have the output of two or three companies like SSM. They endorse as much creativity as possible.

To bad.

AAA games are great and all, but Id love to see what Naughty Dog could do on the more creative side of things. AAA is usually just to much money to invest in something that you do not know if it will work.

I would agree with you if it wasnt because it is naughty dog we are talking about. Their creativity is what made games like the last of us and uncharted popular to begin with. Its not like they just chose what is safe and then went with it... they invented it and made it popular. Uncharted: drakes fortune had demos running with third person cover system implemented before gears of war came and "revoloutionized" third person shooters. Uncharted was one of the first games to combine everything and have it work this well. Id say that is creativity in itself.

Thats my issue though.  Creativity on a safer concept is not the same as just being creative.  Zombies?  3rd Person Action?  Great Acting?  Sure there are things in TLOU that are creative, but the game itself is not.  Id almost call it a Safe Game (Uncharted with Zombies, when Zombies are stupidly popular).  Uncharted?  Ill say something similar.

Just to be clear, there is no hate here for either.  Hell, I plan on double dipping on TLOU:R, since I was planning on playing through the game again anyway.

I brought up Child of Light for the simple reason that it was something new and fresh from the group of developers who made Far Cry 3 ? (A game I still think is heavily influenced by Uncharted).  Id just love to see it.

There is nothing safe about making a AAA title. Its the biggest risk there is in the industry. Its why so many companies are dying.

Sure isnt.  But there are safe AAA games and big risk AAA games.  There is always a degree of risk.

Very true, but AAA budgets have the ability and capacity to send a company under. Those games take years of concepting and development. Indie games are remnants of old school development and as creative as they are can be finished in a year or less. Some take longer to make. Rare used to be able to make multiple games in a year with a smaller team.
