Forums - Sony - Blu-ray advantage starting to shine in games?

The rumor is over. Overlord IS coming to the ps3 this summer. And because of blu-ray it will have all the downloadable content (which you pay for on LIVE) bundled with the game. Very nice. Rather than charging us extra for the downloadable content, they'll add it right on to the blu-ray since they have the extra space.

Anyhow, I was thinking about picking this up for the 360 once it was down to $20...now I'll just wait so I can get the extra content.  I have enough games to keep me busy for awhile anyhow.

We totally didn't see this one coming (oh wait, yes we did) - CVG is confirming that Overlord will be coming to the PS3 this summer. Thanks to the storage capacity of Blu-ray the game will come bundled with all of the downloadable content that's currently available for the 360 and PC versions on the same disc as the game. The PS3 version will be released under the name Overlord: Raising Hell to reflect the extra content.

It's nice to get confirmation, even if Codemaster's vague quote all-but confirmed the game was coming. Sadly a more specific release date than "summer" isn't available, so it could arrive in four months or seven. Whichever happens, we'll be happy to finally get our hands on the game for our console of choice.

What I find funny is the original CVG article never mentions anything like "Thanks to the storage capacity of Blu-Ray...". That was added on the PS3 Fanboy site as an obvious jab at 360. The truth is, this is pretty common place when a game is released on another console a year after it's original release. Fight Night had more content on PS3 than 360, Virtua Fighter 5 had more content on 360 than PS3. That is basically the apology for not having it as soon as the other guy. I highly doubt a game like Overlord was maxing out an HD-DVD when Mass Effect fits on one disc. That article is nothing but spin.

With that out of the way, it's nice it's coming to PS3, and with the added content to boot.

Well, I'm still not getting the game. But it's nice to at least get extra content for porting late.

xbox doesn't use hd-dvd

What was the difference between Blu-ray and HD DVD?

I have no idea what they do differently from a standard DVD.

I'm sorry, you're correct. It uses a DVD-9, which has even less space I think. Thanks, that proves it further.

They had more space than regular dvd which allowed hd content which requires alot of space to take place on them. The difference is just they are different formats.

If games like Mass Effect fit on one DVD, Overlord sure wouldn't have any problems, with or without the DLC.

Just another case of a fanboy adding 1 and 1 and coming up with 3 as the logical answer.

Yeah Onyxmeth
360 doesn't use HD-DVD.

but i do agree with you.
Not until multiplat games (that are concurrently released) start being made with more content on the blu-ray- will there be an advantage.

but that is no excuse for why Sony 1st party devs are not using the blu ray to its fullest potential now.

Its not like it is impossible to max out blu-ray discs, it probably is just more cost effective not to.
