I don't hear a peep from anyone either but idk how the voice chat works, if it's only people in your fire team, or if you can hear others when you play solo. I agree about the random events, though I am now max beta level and have only seen one. I did the strike mission earlier, even with 2 other people the 2 boss fights were basically just sit and slowly whittle away at their health bar for 10 minutes until they finally died. Pretty boring. I am sure the final game will have more exciting stuff though.

Imho they capped the beta too low. You don't really get a sense really of any difference in classes or cool abilities. It seems like it's just a meh shooter.

Anyone know what to do with the weapon part and plating?

I think the final game has some sort of crafting component

ahh ok i thought i could trade them in for currency. Do you know the best way to get glimer (or whatever you call it)

Weapon parts and plating are used in retail to craft / modigy / upgrade equipment, along with the glass shards and such.
