Another Microsoft u-turn: Xbox One consoles no longer double as dev kits

Remember when Microsoft said that every Xbox One unit can be used as a development kit? Well, they’ve just made a u-turn on that one too.

 Following the reversal of the DRM policies and the Kinect-less Xbox One after that, Microsoft has stated today at Develop that it no longer plans to make Xbox One units double as development kits. Something which never actually materialised since Microsoft promised it before launch.

Martin Fuller, of Xbox Advanced Technology Group, said this to the press attending Develop today, “As far as I’m aware there are no plans. I’m not aware of the reason why we didn’t manage to do that.

“We were in the early stages of Xbox One looking at the idea of a retail kit that could be turned into a development kit, and vice versa. In the end, although that was a very admirable goal, it hasn’t happened unfortunately. Can’t tell you the specifics of exactly why not.”

So there you have it, are you disappointed by this decision?

LOL I remember some online saying this meant unlimited games and was a huge advantage for MS....It was never going to amount to much as it was anyway. It was a bait and switch.

So, this was basically just something they thought they might get to work somway down the line, not an actual concept that was built into the system?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

selnor = some?

selnor = all xbox fans?

selnor = a typical example of a xbox fan?

Where did I say anything about all xbox fans or typical xbox fan??? Re-read please.

Selnor was NOT the only one, but I never said a lot, most or typical. Relax, it's just a console bro.

Selnor mentioned it pretty regularly :p

In fairness though, Selnor is Selnor. He was a special kind of butterfly.

He wasnt the only one?  if you say so.

Thats right it is, perhaps you can take your own advice here pal.

There are plenty of features previously promised for both consoles not there yet...  some were even "shown" at launch or promised soon after launch but are yet to materialis. Maybe some will never appear?

HE wasn't you think Selnor was the ony one ? LMAO, many online were singing it's praises even on GAF, here many places please.

What does the rest of your post have to do with anything or the topic? Sony has done this too, go make a thread about it then.  Not yet materialzing and never coming are two different things though.

That's odd, that would have been great if MS continued with the original idea. I wonder what made them change their minds? I mean this clearly had no negative strings attach to it what-so-ever.
