Another Microsoft u-turn: Xbox One consoles no longer double as dev kits
Remember when Microsoft said that every Xbox One unit can be used as a development kit? Well, they’ve just made a u-turn on that one too.
Following the reversal of the DRM policies and the Kinect-less Xbox One after that, Microsoft has stated today at Develop that it no longer plans to make Xbox One units double as development kits. Something which never actually materialised since Microsoft promised it before launch.
Martin Fuller, of Xbox Advanced Technology Group, said this to the press attending Develop today, “As far as I’m aware there are no plans. I’m not aware of the reason why we didn’t manage to do that.
“We were in the early stages of Xbox One looking at the idea of a retail kit that could be turned into a development kit, and vice versa. In the end, although that was a very admirable goal, it hasn’t happened unfortunately. Can’t tell you the specifics of exactly why not.”
So there you have it, are you disappointed by this decision?
