Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Counters Destiny’s PlayStation Exclusives with $10 Gift Cards on Xbox One and 360

Activision’s promotional deal with Sony Computer Entertainment brought a lot of attention and exclusive content to the PS4 and PS3 versions of the game, but Microsoft isn’t standing idle, and is countering the rival’s moves in its own way.

Whoever will pre-order the game for Xbox One and Xbox 360 on Microsoft’s own store will be able to take advantage of an “exclusive offer” and get a $10 Xbox gift card digital code. It’s not exclusive content or early access to the beta, but it’s definitely much better than nothing.

It’s basically over 25% off the price of the game’s expansion pass, which will cost a whopping $34.99, or half the price of a single expansion (each will be priced at $19.99). At the moment the offer seems to be available exclusively in the US.

its not really a counter since i think theyve done it for alot of games already

This is done with every big Xbox game when it releases.

Nicely done by MS, though they'll be losing a lot of potential earnings with that.

True but at least it makes the Xbox version of Destiny better value.

How? The Gift Card is for use on Xbox so they're essentially getting the money back when someone purchases something with it.

Ha, clever.

This is also why I don't see why no one can/has released a digital marketplace of sorts. It'd be awesome to be able to trade games with other players in exchange for Steam Credits/ XBL points, etc. All the money would stay in their ecosystem, too, so it's not like they'd be losing all that much. They could even take a cut out of each transaction, eBay style.

This is pretty nice, honestly.

Is there a joke here I'm missing?
