Forums - Gaming - Xbox to be $800 in china, with restricted games.

As I saw in a few articles, the wii u is the most likely to succede in china due to having more games that are aproved in china, most third partys are banned so nintendo will probably shine over there.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

The only gaming company I can see succeeding in Japan is honestly Nintendo because 95% of their games (in my opinion) wouldn't break any Chinese law whereas almost all of ps4/xbox one games would. I don't say this with any Nintendo bias btw; just look at most of their games.

I expect something similar for Ps4 600-700$

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

remember when people though that releasing in china was going to be the massive game changing moment for xbox because millions would be sold because even a 1% market penetration rate means 100M+ in sales.

seems silly now doesn't it.

Silly now?   It was silly since day 1 of them saying that.

i wonder how many months an average foxconn worker has to not commit suicide to buy one...

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

UPDATE: Microsoft has responded with the following:
"Microsoft Stores China is conducting a special promotion to engage local fans and customers that includes an opportunity to win a RMB 4,999 Microsoft store e-coupon every week in July. This amount is unrelated to the price of the Xbox One in China. We have not made any pricing announcements of Xbox One in China."

well true.  but in the thread about xbox releasing in china a good 1/3 of the poster thought there was "a ton of potential in this market".   the price announcement really hammers home how little potential there is.  china has soo much poverty that this price probably eliminates about 75% of that market.

consoles really don't stand a chance in the short term.  maybe the ps5/xbox2 can do okay but right now msony are going to lose money in china.

Two articles on the Chinese video game market:
http://kotaku.com/5587577/why-are-consoles-banned-in-china
"Game consoles do make their way into China through the gray market, where they are bought and sold illegally. Hanson at Niko Partners points out that gamers get their gray market consoles modded so they can play pirated games for either free or on the cheap."

http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/30/china-console-ban/
"Not that this matters to the majority of Chinese gamers, who have developed a huge appetite for RPGs like Warcraft and Diablo on the PC."

The average citizen should be able to afford one after a year of work.
