Forums - Gaming - Natural Doctrine Sells Over 50,000 Copies, To Receive New Free PlayStation 4 DLC

The PlayStation exclusive role playing game Natural Doctrine, developed by Kadokawa Games, has managed to become quite successful in Japan.

The team has confirmed that the game has sold over 50.000 copies in Japan since its release. This is a really great result, considering it’s the first game developed by Kadokawa Games and a brand new IP.

To commemorate the nice result, Kadokawa has confirmed that starting next week, gamers will be able to download a brand new free DLC for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The new DLC pack will include a special mission which is going to be really difficult.

Kadokawa has also confirmed that the digital PlayStation 4 version of the game is going to be available for a slightly reduced price from July 10th until August 27th, with 1000 yen off the usual price.

Last, but not least, a new Natural Doctrine update is also in the works. Apparently the update is going to bring some new enhancements for the multiplayer mode as well as adjustments to the checkpoints system and some new tutorials which will better explain some of the game’s mechanics.

Natural Doctrine is now available in Japan. The game will launch during September in North America and Europe on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

50k doesn't sound succesfull. But hey, if they are happy with that then great

Maybe they're hoping to get some free publicity, which seems to be working. Whether that will result to increase of sales of a otential sequel, it remains to be seen.

There's plenty of games that come out in Japan and sell 50k and make profit. If you keep expectations in check then you can keep a company going for a long time off of these small sales.

I have no idea how much Kadokawa spent on this game or what their expectations were but it is a new IP from a new studio. I hope Kadokawa is satisfied, at the least. I'd like to see them stay in the gaming business, considering their massive catalog of properties.

So..... why has no one ever told this to Square Enix?

I think it depends in the costs of a game and how many workers a company has. SE has tons of people working for them, so they need much more sales to keep going. For a small team however, the bar can be set lower.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

It's nice to see a company that is humble and happy with 50K sales and not crying about how their game didn't sell a bajillion copies and didn't drown them in profits.

Sometimes if you have reasonable expectations for your games, it can turn out nicely in the long run.

This is the optimal way to create video games.

Because Square has around 10x the development teams working on their games so their cost and overheard is expotentially higher.

Seriously,What a silly question. Not to mention SE games around 10x bigger than Natural Doctrine.
