It was mentioned, something on the lines of "having kids they did not expect to have".

LOL this argument is the worst of it's kind. Maybe when Religious institutions want to stop Sex Ed in the classroom and teach kids to use protection... Than yes.

They should raise minimum wages. A lot of people can't help being stuck with aweful jobs.

So religion is to blame for people being poor? Not the rich and government? Wow! Learn something new everyday. Or maybe it is just the poors fault.

Anyway, looks like it is at least being raised to 10 dollars since I see more and more politicians supporting that high of raise.

When it comes to people getting pregnant or getting pregnant at an early age (without money) and Christians and other people shaming them yes. It's not Absolute, but Christians are religious institutions are also to blame.

Prices will go up, number of jobs will go down. So no, it's not a good thing. It's good for the lucky ones who get to keep their jobs, but for the ones who have hours cut or fired, it sucks ass.

Look for wayyy more automated checkouts at grocery stores, wal-marts, hell even fast food places could have a simple touch screen ordering system to replace cashiers....

Government can do one amazing thing that would create millions upon millions of jobs: deregulate, and step the fuck out of the way of business. Let employees and employers negotiate on wages, stop telling business "you have to pay at least this much hourly, plus Obamacare, plus pension contributions, plus all the taxes, plus abide by all the rules, licenses, regulations" etc. etc.

Wrong, and wrong again. The Minimum Wage was enacted so people could live on Decent wages. We also did this because THINGS did get out of hand remember the Industrial Age when kids and families were abused by the Company?

And also Deregulation doesn't always help, you do realize they can also Deregulate to only help the Rich get by and not the poor? You do realize that this is escpecially true in the Alchohol industry?

We can create Millions of Jobs yes, but at what cost? Have the same standards as China? Sorry but this is America, we expect Higher Standards than China.

if minimum improves, everyone improves. skilled labor jobs will have to increase wages or lose their employees to walmart or staples or some other menial job where they can do nothing and get the same pay. the corporations aren't hurting one bit and can easily afford to retain talent. don't let anyone tell you otherwise, they are obviously clueless.

the concerns seem to come from the fear of the high school dropout flipping burgers making as much as someone who furthered their education and works in business or social work, etc. that will never happen, so that fear is irrational.

1. Well actually the concern for me is the high school dropout won't even be able to get a job flipping burgers. Raising minimum wage is like taking away the bottom few rungs of a ladder. It'll help the people already with jobs, experience, or education....and hurt the people looking for jobs with little experience or education. Will lead to higher unemployment, and higher prices.

2. The thing is minimum wage jobs like flipping burgers or scanning items at Wal-mart are nothing more than rock bottom jobs you get as your first job so you can get experience then move on to something better...they aren't supposed to be the job you work at for 40 years then retire. They're for students, dropouts, or old people looking for easy part time work to supplement their pension.

1. Not true, in fact if you look at the Income Gap from the Rich to Poor you'll see why, the rich have been getting richer and the poor have been getting poorer. There is more than enough money right now for the rich "Job Creators" to Raise the Minimum Wage.

2. Actually Minimum Wage jobs are suppose to provide a Decent Living. The fact of the matter is, Prices have been raising, The rich are getting Richer the poor have been becoming poorer.
That Depends, not everybody is able to either, some people have Disabilities. If anything They need to provide DECENT healthcare to EVERYBODY that works too. It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor. If the poor get into an Accident they'll have to worry about there Credit going down and Owing people money. Which makes it even harder to climb up the social ladder.
If people choose to work Minimum they should still be able to make a Decent living, which many AREN'T.

price of public transportation, food goods, rent, gas etc all goes up, but the minimum wage stays the same? screw that, you better raise it!
