Forums - Gaming - Xbox One Huge Day 1 Patch Woes Continue With Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark

Microsoft’s Xbox One seems to be one console which usually needs a huge sized patch for most of its games on day 1. The two recent games that come to mind are Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark and Sniper Elite 3.

Sniper Elite 3 is going to have a day 1 patch weighing in at 10 GB. Similarly, the day 1 patch for Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is going to be a big download, as confirmed by one user on Reddit.

The user, who got his copy for the Xbox One, shared this news regarding the size of the patch, which is about 9 GB in size. Wolfenstein: The New Order was another game on the Xbox One that launched with a big patch size , about 7 GB in total. The strange thing is that similar games on PS4 usually have less size for their day 1 patches compared to the Xbox One. This is not the case for every game but it is strange to see it happening for some of the odd titles like in the case of Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is also notorious for huge patch sizes, but not to the same extent as an Xbox One. Infact Sony is trying to cut down on patch sizes as evident by the recent change in the way DC Universe Online updates the game, which should result in reduced patch size for the game.

The complete role reversal between this generation and last has been really interesting to watch. The Xbox 360 tiny maximum 4MB patch size (for the first several years) versus the often hundreds of MB for the equivalent PS3 games was really nice, you were playing your game within seconds instead of minutes to longer. I'm staggered at how the Xbox One handles this stuff so poorly.

So 10GB... WTH is even in that? Is the game done? The multiplat situation on X1 is just horrific, and if anything it seems like it is getting worse...

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

maybe this games were build with DRM stuff and the patch fix it?! just guessing here. /o/

How big are the patches on the PS4, for the cases listed I could only find the XOne download sizes?

I don´t think it´s the case the PS4 downloads are not a few dozen MB.

Edit: just found one.

XOne = 7GB

PS4 = 5GB

It´s not the case of saing the problem Microsoft faults.

That's bad... like very bad for some people. I have friends who still live in 1999 with their 5 MBps internet speeds. That's a good 10 to 15 hours for them with their shaky speeds. Ouch. The X Box One is shooting itself in the foot and the word of mouth (especially in the USA) for the PS4 is massively good. All I see everywhere is Advertising for the X Box One, and all you see at Game Stop.. but when you go inside all anyone wants is a PS4 and PS4 games. It's really a reflection of how poorly The One has been performing. People want the better console that costs the same, it's really not THAT confusing I guess.

It's probably ultra shitty optimisation for the XBO version which they didn't fix durning development so they are releasing it as a patch.

Lollll.. This generation man... Its just gonna keep on getting worse and worse

More like 5 or 6 hours on 5 Mbps.

We get it, MS clearly needs to be more competitive and developers are still learning the hardware. This is MS's PS3, the X1 hasn't faded into obscurity just yet.

Well its only year one. It took 2-3 years before 360 and PS3 really became appealing.
