Without hard numbers this means nothing? How many did they receive? 5k? 50k? I highly doubt the Xone launch will break the 100k barrier, there is simply no mass appealing software for it.

Exactly. They could have only made 10,000 pre orders available.I remember hearing the same about the NA and EU launch. We know what happened after.

So for now we know that some model are sold out in some retailers , and that it successfully hit the top spot in many retailers. (still number 2 on amazon) http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/videogames
So it won't be something like 7k to 10k like many are saying.

I'm guessing between 75k and 120k.

It's fun to look back on things to see how it all turned out. With this recent article on the VGC homepage :

We can see that X1 LTD in Japan still hasn't broken 60k.

In fact, it's one of the more monumental failures in recent memory for gaming hardware.

Sony has had a few big fails too, I don't think PSTV was a hit at all, and who can forget PSPGo.

If there is a 9th gen Xbox, I sort of doubt it will get a Japanese launch at all. There's no way it was profitable staffing MS Xbox employees in Japan and the support/network/distribution infrastructure.
