I don't get the point though, other than Bungie getting tons of cash from Sony.
There is just no merit to letting players play an old build that has already most of the bugs removed in a newer build. The only thing it does is gathering criticism for things that probably don't even exist anymore in the game.

Server stress testing, ironing out kings you didnt now were there, and so forth.

The client was setup to litterally wire tap every player, their entire movement course was tracked, every step they took, every time they pulled the trigger, every collision box they hit or shot, everything.

To a developer that sort of information is extremely valuable, especially when you dont have to pay a room full of sweaty neckbeards for the privleage.

And to mock the whole "titanfall graphics comparison" sigs that were all the rage the while back with the black screen ps4..

Player stats for xbox one version:

0 Primary Weapon Kills
0 Secondary Weapon Kills
0 Heavy Weapon Kills
0 Super Ability Kills
0 Orbs of Light Gathered
0 Control Points Captured in the Crucible
0 Deathless Medals awarded in the Crucible
0 Splatters with the Sparrow
43,448 Cans of mountain dew drank
0 Public Events Joined
0 Fallen Dregs Dispatched with Extreme Prejudice
Too many to count: Guardians served in Dance Parties
0 Player Games Played!

lol, nice.

Go look at the GAF threads on the Alpha, or the threads here.

It did a TON of positive PR. It turned countless people from indifference to preordering the game or even the bundle (like myself).

It's a game that is hard to explain, but once you can really show people the depth that it has, it explains itself.

This game is going to be absolutely HUGE. Should easily be the biggest selling title of 2014, by a pretty large margin.

Didn't really follow the media around Destiny. If that's so, it was a good idea.

My indifference turned to hate when I saw the white PS4 bundle.

This is gonna slaughter a ton of sales records.

Thanks jlmurph!

But... Destiny Alpha > Betafield 4

I wonder if I'm the only person of the 6.4 million who was completely underwhelmed?

Yes, with 90+ metacritic and 10+ million sales

Stories unfolded with my home made rap songs. Feel free to listen here with lyrics: https://youtu.be/vyT9PbK5_T0

I know BenV was very impressed with the alpha considering his impressions thread he made. Before he even played it, he believed that if Bungie can rock the beta really well then it will continue to be huge. It looks like Bungie did it anyway just with the alpha considering the positive news in the last week and more from this game.

Don't be surprised if the next pre-order chart from this site shows an even larger gap in the different platform sku's then we're accustomed to seeing.

Wow, this game will be huge.

Which is not even half of what it should do according to the hype. --> fail

I said this before, The Destiny Alpha was more optimized than Battlefield 4 7 months after release. That says a lot about Bungie.
