The Wii U dropoff is heavier then expected, but it's still doing good. Microsoft should start to get worried though.

Price cut SKU didn't go into circulation until the 9th, so this week and the rest of June will really be the true indicator.  Microsoft just basically threw away May and the first week of June by announcing the cut too soon.  Of course, whether it has a sustained effect in sales remains to be seen.

Ok, but the $399 SKU was announced the 2nd week of May, so why did last week (ending on May 31) see Xbox One sales at 52k...And the following week (this week ending on June 7th) why did we see such a dip down to 38k?

The numbers were already declining prior to the announcement, this simply increased the dropoff at a much higher rate.  You could attribute it to word of mouth spreading the news, or people just starting to see the commercials (MS didn't start advertising for the kinectless SKU up until the last week or two I think...could be wrong though didn't see it on TV until the past couple weeks), or noticed an article somewhere.  We forget, not everyone is paying nearly as much attention to things as we are.

I hope Wii U can maintain 40k as a weekly baseline.

Is 85k the Wii U's new baseline?

Not even close.

Explain

The Wii U is not suddenly going to sell on average ~50k more per week than it did before MK8 just because of that one game, this weeks numbers are still higher because it's MK8s second week. Wii U sales are gonna drop further next week.

Remember this week was before e3

well this generation is painful
2 consoles considered dead(none dead last gen)
only 1 console getting over 100k as its average(when 7th gen all 3 were usually )
1 that might be dead if its price cut doesnt help
and 1 that has passed its peak year(somewhat like the wii)
8th gen is aweful :P

(Lost)Bet with kinisking: I say Ps4 will win April NPD while he says Xbox One will win it; winner gets 1 week of avatar control.

Looks like WiiU is still overtracked for last week/month but it's getting there! (100k~)

28k~ for WiiU in US seems very odd tho, even if June is slightly above May (80k~) that only leaves 12k for the remainder 4 weeks.

E3 is not going to increase the baseline for the Wii U or any other console. Software will and until the Wii U gets more releases, sales will once again slide down/baseline remains low.

You can't even really compare Xbox One's May sales numbers. They announced the June 9 Kinect-less SKU in like mid-May. We all knew May was going to tank.

How soon we forget.

Too early to say. Both PS3 and 360 averaged below 100k during their first full year, nothing new here (although WiiU is second year so it is bad). Xbox One still has a good chance, next week is the new SKU which could have a big impact. I don't expect the XB1 to get above 100k on average but the baseline should improve.

PS4 is still doing quite a bit better than both the PS3 and 360 as well, its legs should take it to higher than those.

While this gen isn't as good as the last one, it certainly isn't awful or dead (yet).
