Forums - Gaming - Destiny Is a PlayStation Exclusive in Japan

 Expand

In the West, upcoming shooter Destiny is a multiplatform game. In Japan, it's not. It's a PlayStation exclusive, Sony announced today.

Instead of getting an Xbox 360 and Xbox One release like it will abroad, the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and the PS4 when it's released in Japan on September 11.

It's worth noting that the Xbox One won't even be out in Japan until September 4, so that, along with evaporating Xbox 360 retail presence in Japan, might be contributing to the game's PlayStation exclusiveness.

Bungie, the studio behind the Xbox exclusive Halo series, is developing Destiny. That's right, at least in one country, Bungie is working on a PlayStation exclusive!

Destiny, however, will be released on the Xbox 360, the Xbox One, the PS3, and the PS4 in the West on September 9.

Kotaku has reached out to Sony Japan to confirm whether or not Destiny is a timed exclusive for the region and will update this story should the company comment.

well.... considering how the Xbox is a flop in japan anyway... it makes sense but I doubt the game will be a major hit in Japan anyway. It doesn't quite fit the Japan gaming style that much.

Took longer for someone to make a thread then I thought.

Don't know what kind of message this sends to Japanese gamers when a big budget AAA title is exclusive to the PS4 a week after the Xbox One launch.

To counterbalance Destiny!

Diablo 3 was a PS3 exclusive in Japan. No big surprise. I wonder how many games will start doing this generation. I'm still baffled that Square Enix are publishing Call of Duty/Tomb Raider for XB1's launch.

i'm sure 5 guys are very disappointed right now.

its not like any of them are buying xbox's anyway.

Don't know if the Japanese will show an interest in the game, but they sure embraced COD and Battlefield, so I don't see why not.

Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil is exclusive to Playstation consoles again, when it will launch in Japan.

Ot. Yeah saw it on Neogaf earlier, what is really interesting for me is, from what I understand, that Sony is actually publishing the game in Japan(?). I remember Sony has not even published some of their own games there, so that comes as a suprise.

Anyway, I don't think it's a big deal, I expect Xbone to be DoA in Japan, so PS4 multiplats will essentially be almost exclusive anyway.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!
